Hello Fodorites: Since you were such a big help to me in planning my mom's surprise for her last trip to Italy, I decided to give you a go again! Mom is now planning a 5 week tour of the country which includes 10 days on the Amalfi Coast. While there, I thought it would be nice to hire her a private car/driver/guide for a day to peruse the coast line the "right" way! You all aided me in finding Marco at Rome Connections but sadly, I have not been able to locate him for this trip! Can anyone of you help me? Clock is ticking as she leaves in 3 weeks. Thanks in advance!

We really like Giovanni and Giancarlo at Tourofitaly.com. They are based in Sorrento, do excellent tours of the coast, and will also pick up clients in Rome. Hope she has a wonderful time!
travelbuff,
If your Mom has a whole 10 days on the Amalfi Coast, I hope she will also do some sightseeing via boat. It's a beautiful view the whole way!
With 10 days, I'd recommend a visit to Paestum too. Amazing Greek temple site.
And I recommend the royal palace and gardens at Caserta.

Hi tb,

For private limo transfers, we were pleased with Limousine Service Sorrento (Renato Cuomo)
www.cuomonet.it He also does tours.
Also consider Francesco. http://www.francescomarrapese.com/
I was happy with benvenuto limousines if you can't find Marco. They're based in Praiano.
Weadles - Can you tell me more about the tour option you took with Tour of ITaly and how much it cost you? Thanks

travelbuff127,
I don't think you can go wrong with any of the recommendations mentioned here, since the same names come up all the time. Our tour of the coast occurred a few years ago, and involved quite a few stops over a very long day. I think it ran us about $500 with tip, but again, starting early in the morning until nearly dinner. We were pushed for time, so decided to go this route, even though it was pricey. The best idea is probably to call several of the companies listed above for comparison sake and see which one (s) suit your budget/schedule.
I also totally agree with the recommendation to see as much of the coast you can by boat. Not only is it much less expensive (!), it's quite scenic and traffic-free. Just to give you an idea, trip time between Sorrento and Positano by boat is about 45 minutes or less. Sorrento to Capri by hydrofoil is very short- I think under 30 minutes.
Hope your mom has a great time!
