Naples to Positano

Naples to Positano
Hello everyone,
I've been reading so many posts regarding travel between Rome/Naples and Positano and now I'm confused more than ever. We too are traveling in late September and will also be disembarking early in Naples wanting to head to Positano for a few days stay on AC. My question is, can you catch a ferry boat from Naples directly to Positano ? Or do you have to take it somewhere else and connect to Positano...
If the answer is yes, how long would that take under normal circumstances ?
I know there have been many posting about buses, trains and private transportation (which I would probably lean towards if the ferry option is not on the table)
Would someone gives us some insight on the ferry option. Or, possible private transportation services from Naples to Positano

There is no direct ferry service from Naples to Positano.
There IS a direct ferry service from Salerno to Positano, however, so if water is your favoured way to arrive, take the train from Naples to Salerno and then ferry from there. It's a very short walk from the station to the dock (about 800 metres).
If you have to get there from Naples, your only choices are train to Sorrento and then bus.
Private car services cost around 120 euro for this trip. There are many who do this route. I would try WorldTours http://www.naplestoamalficoast.com/ who get rave reviews or others like Guemar Travel, Sorrento Cars, Transferelax, Joe's Limos. Don't pay any more than 120 euro.

can anyone recommend a favorite place to stay in Positano the first week of October 2016? We are looking for the usual's...great food, great wine and great atmosphere to share on the AC.

Staying on the AC is sort of a bucket list item for my wife and I so I don't want to limit our options with a budget for rooms as I expect this will be a one time experience for us. I would like to stay in an upscale hotel with balconies overlooking the water so we have something really nice to remember...

Well...late September is still high season if you want to stay in a 'high end with views' you may find they're sold out and sold out months ago.
Try Le Sirenuse or the Marincanto. Further out of town is Il San Pietro. These are high end.
For mid-range but still with views, Hotel California, Residence Alcione or Hotel Eden Roc.

Yes, you are absolutely right.
Even though we would be staying the week of October 9-14 the prices don't really seem to be dropping off much. Unfortunately, we've never been to this area and I don't know if it's best to higher up or closer to the beach area. Climbing 400 steps or more everyday might get a little stall by the end of the week. I don't mind spending $500 a night but $1500. a night, starts to take the fun out of it.. I've been noticing a mid range hotel called Buco de Bacco can anyone provide feed back on this property or some place else similar to this property

If I had to make a choice about locale, I'd lean more toward in town than near the beach. Are you really going to be spending a lot of time on the beach? And you can get a hotel room with a water view w/o staying near the beach.
