Flying from DC, looking into tickets....why does it take so long to get there? I am seeing 7 and 8 hour layovers. Can someone please help me? Tickets are in the upper 600s, but I am willing to pay and extra hundred at least to cut out this travel time. Thank you! This is for an Amalfi Coast honeymoon, Oct. 11 - 21.

maybe fly to Rome then take either the bus or train to Naples, about two hours from Rome.
where are you looking at these flights? I just put your days and airports into economytravel.com and found one on Alitalia with a two hour layover in Milan and costs in the 700's.

I just responded on your other post. I hope you are planning to fly into Naples and out of Rome. Even if the tickets are a little more, it shouldn't be as expensive as the 400E($500) transfer fee suggested on that post.
Another option would be the non-stop flights from JFK to Naples/Rome/Bologna/Milan on Eurofly. http://www.euroflyvacations.com/index.asp
We visited Naples last year and took an Easyjet flight out of London, which lowered both the airfare across the Atlantic and the travel time to Naples. Easyjet is a great airline with low cost fares to destinations all over Europe.
We usually fly into Paris and then catch a connection flight on Alitalia or Air France into Naples. They usually have at least 2-3 flights daily (morning, noon, and early evening).
All great tips....we get back from our wedding in Arizona on the red eye...something like 1am, but it seems most flights to Italy from DC or even NYC are in the afternoon. Ideally i would like to go from DC.
Although I have never seen this written, Alitalia doesn't issue from Rome to Naples, unless the passenger has arrived on a Alitalia flight.
I tried this many times and never made this connection, or at least within a reasonable time.
Maybe this doesn't apply to your problem.
