Naples, Italy stay
Hi....My wife and I are going to be spending 1 and 1/2 day in Naples Italy end of September. We would like to be close to the shopping area and an area that is safe to walk around and sight see. Also we have an early morning flight to catch at 6.15 am the next day. What's the best place to stay which is convenient to all and not too far from the airport.

Naples is a small city. The areas tourists frequent are all close to the airport.
The main shopping strip is Via Toledo which runs parallel to the Historic Centre. Some good hotels in this vicinity are Il Convento, Piazza Bellini and the Decumane Hotel de Charme. If you prefer B&B's then Il Campanile is gorgeous and right in one of the historic centre's most charming streets.

From the historic centre to the airport it is a fixed taxi fare of 16 euro. Your hotel will organise this for you.

Thanks for the quick revert. We are spending 8 days in Italy doing Rome, Sorrento and the Amalfi area which leaves us only 1 and 1/2 day in Naples. We want to do a lot more in Italy and will definitely come back. Thanks again for your suggestions.

Better to have 1.5 days in Naples than none!
One thought: For many of us, it is FAR easier to reach Rome than Naples or the Amalfi coast. So it might be worth diverting as much of your time as possible on THIS trip to Naples and the Amalfi Coast, given that it will be easier (and take less time) to return to Rome than to these locations. Just something to consider....

We stayed here: http://us.venere.com/ho318503/italy/...medea/#reviews
recommended it to friends who also liked it. It is in the historical center, with dark narrow streets but it is safe. We were catching a train at 6 a.m. and they arranged for a taxi the night before. We were worried about it--no cell phone, and once in the street, no way of getting back to the B&B for help--but it worked out fine.
