N E E D Formia-Gaeta--Motel/Hotel/B&B

Will visit cousins in ITRI (LT), south of Rome and north of Naples, near Formia and Gaeta on 15-16 Aug. '08. I need a motel/hotel/B&B for one-two night(s)for my family of four.

Years ago, in 1972 when I was 14, I stayed at the Mira Mare right on road from Itri to Gaeta. It was a one story motel then, in Formia. Now, I believe it is same place, is a 4-star Castle- Costello Miramare: http://www.hotelcastellomiramare.it/and it is expensive. We are looking into E. 95-110 and need a quad and prefer to stay in Formia as this is closest to Itri than Gaeta.

Not many know about this area but if you do, any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.

You will be there in the worst period of the year for crowd and prices. It will be Ferragosto, when everyone spends its vacation even only for few days.
Therefore, if you reserve as soon as possible, rather than Formia or Gaeta, why not Itri ?
There is a comfortable and cute agritourism, I GIARDINI DI MARGIUS www.igiardinidimargius.com maybe a good choice.
You should reserve soon.

Have a lovely trip, ciao.

Vincenzo

I've heard of I Giardini Di Margius. I've been told it's a nice place by my friends in Itri, the Di Russos. It's nice to have information from one who knows, such as Vincenzo. One of my brothers in law in Naples is named Vincenzo. They call him "Enzo"

THANK YOU!!!! I NEVER heard of this place! Leave it to Fodorites and Waldo's friends! (WALDO- wonder if your friends in Itri know my relatives? There is a mountain there named after our family).

I just e-mailed our request to, I Gardini di Margius, and hope to hear from them soon! Already hotel replies of today are asking for a few nights stay, assume due to holiday. Again, MOLTO GRAZIE!

Probably. Itri is a relatively small town.

STILL have not found a place. Was waiting for cousin's friend who owns a pensione to reply and like most places, his place wants one week and we have only ONE NIGHT! Hotels and B&B's we looked at all say 3-7 night stay needed or they are filled up (latter is B&B's situation).

One place I spoke to in Itri (another cousin said to try Hotel Fra Diavolo but when I called them they informed they have been a restaurant for past 8 years, gave up hotel business) said I should try a bigger hotel, say a 200 room one found in Gaeta, further north about 20 minutes away from Itri. That may have to suffice but it is in direction we want to go after more visiting next morning in Itri, which is opposite direction.

We will be in Itri on 15 Aug. and depart late morning of 16 for Assisi. Really prefer to stay in Itri or Formia and now will to go up to E. 150 per night as getting desperate!

I know it is a bad time to get a place but do you know of other Formia or Gaeta hotels?

Thank you lovisa. What a great site! Seeing those street names brough back memories! I had contacted but your site gave me a a fax for Monte Fusco (that's my last name and mountain named after our family) but get no response from trying and read on various other sites, this hotel not in operation at this time. Other B&B, I must call as they do not have e-mail or fax addresses. I've called a few from another list and they all want more than one day stay. Bet these will say same. Will try when it is afternoon in Italy, not night as it is now.

Again, thanks or molto grazie!!!

It may be too early in the season for hotels, B&B's that only open seasonally...maybe you should try again beginning/mid-May? Though some smaller establishments ONLY open June-August in this area.
