Barbara,
Mykonos is beautiful and it is for everyone! We went to Paradise beach which was really, really nice. It was topless but optional with no pressure to conform. The downtown shopping and resturant area is beautiful at night and geared for people of all interests and activity levels.
Rick

Barbara- you will find people watching to be the favorite sport of tourists on Mykonos. I agree with the rest that Paradise Beach was beautiful, but if you really want to experience Mykonos, take it from me - SUPER PARADISE BEACH is it! Their is topless, bottomless, bareless, pierced, gays, lesbians, transvestites - YOU NAME IT! My husband and I had a panic. It truly is the island of lust. Feel free to e-mail me for more info. YASU!!!

Mykonos is everything people say it is - but a whole lot more. Like crime and very poor police protection. Avoid it unless you are in a large group as the criminal element will spot you a mile away.

David, having travelled to Mykonos many times I've never been aware of the problems you have mentioned. Not once have I been ripped off etc.

In my mind it's one of the friendliest Greek islands and spectacular with it!

I went to Mykonos knowing very little (actually nothing except that everything would be white) about it. Let me tell you, that place is NUTS!! If you've ever been on spring break in Florida, it does not even compare. Everyone is partying everywhere, including Paradise Beach which was mentioned on this page. I also agree, hike over the small mountain (not too difficult, I did it in sandals, a little time consuming but very worth it for the spectacular view)to Super Paradise beach. Join with the natives and take off your top. You'll never see those people again. But wear sunblock. You WILL get lost in the labyrinth of Mykonos town but you will see some of the best restaurants and shopping you ever saw. Leave all your conservative clothes at home and wear the skimpiest outfit you have. Rent a moped (about 10 dollars for the whole day) and ride to the other side of the island where there are more beaches. Warning: the white sand in the pictures of the beaches are really small, painful pebbles. While I am not middle age, I imagine that there is plenty to do for everyone. Sorry for the disorganized response. Yasou!

Went to Mykonos years ago. I knew I wanted to go nude sunbathing. Having never done so before, I joined a tanning salon and went almost every day for a month prior to the trip -- only 5 minute increments each time. This gave my body a chance to get used to the sun. I never did burn, and came home with a great tan and wonderful memories. You're right -- you don't know anyone and you'll never see them again -- go for it!!!
