I'll be travelling to Iceland in late September for 12 days, and will be renting a 4WD car to go around the ring road. I'm looking for some thoughts, in particular on the latter part of a 12 day trip (from around day 7 onwards; see below). There are a number of places I want to fit in especially in the latter part of my trip (from around Myvatn onwards; as I want to fit in Askja, but it seems tight and I'm not sure if it is worth it), and I'm wary of not filling up the days too full in case of inclement weather, or stopping overly often for photos enroute. I am prepared to leave hotel around 8:30am (plus or minus depending on how full the day is) and assuming the breakfast hotel can be served before then - I haven't checked the times yet).
Any thoughts would be much appreciated. I've so far timed the distances using Google, which I understand can be a bit off especially on unsealed roads. I've tried my best to research online some of the more practical travel times, though I also understand the conditions can change quite a bit.
I've having trouble with day 7, 8, 9 and 10. I would prefer arriving in Reykjavik on the night of Day 10 so that I get a full day in Rekyjavik on Day 11. However, to do so I'm not sure how I could traverse all the way from Myvatn via Snaefellness. If I did not go to Askja then it would make it much more doable. The itinerary below doesn't seem workable at the moment unless I give up something. Any thoughts on what to give up or how to reroute the locations would be very much appreciated.
For the first part of the trip, I have a rough idea of how much time to spend in each location (but not with me at the moment). I could add it in later if that would help with commenting.

My rough plan so far is as follows:
Day 0: [Airport to Rekyjavik]
Arrive Keflavik late evening
Collect rental car (4wd)
Check in to a hotel around Reykjavik
Day 1: [Reykjavik to Stori Nupur area]
Bruarfoss (may need to drive on a private road; further research on this)
Day 2: [Stori Nupur area to Hella area]
Hjalparfoss (consider a stop by)
Landmannalauger via 208 North route; leave via 225 (or 208 North if we don't feel up for it. We'll be in a Land Cruiser, but with no fording experience) (2-3hr short walk)
Day 3: [Hella area to Skaftafell area]
Seljalandsfoss (consider checking out Gljufrabui)
Fjardragljufur Masjid (canyon)
Kirkjugolf (stop by)
Day 4: [Skaftafell area to Hofn area]
Skaftafell glacier hike (3hr tour)
Fjallsarlon glacier lagoon
Jokulsarlon (45min boat tour)
Stokksnes (time permitting; or leave to next morning)
Day 5: [Hofn area to Myvatn area]
Stokksnes (if left over from day before)
Stodavarfjordur and Faskrudsfjordur as possible stopovers
Hverarond - sulphur fields
Day 6: [Myvatn area; lots of attractions but apparently only 1hr 15min in driving total]
Leirhnjukur (2.5hr morning walk)
Stkutustadagigar (lake side walk; craters)
Myvatn Nature baths (after dinner, maybe?)
** possible diversion on trip plan below; can't decide if I can fit in Askja as a day tour, or continue on with the remainder of the journey with 1 extra free day to make the travel distances shorter each day, and more realistic **
Day 7: [Myvatn area to Askja and back to Mvyatn]
Askja (12hrs by tour)
Day 8: [Mvyatn area to as far West as possible; maybe Dalvik, making the driving time well into 5 hours I believe]
Dettifoss and Selfoss (via the Eastern side; road 864)
Aldeyjarfoss (via Husavik, as Google suggests this route to be faster than going back down 864/862)
** I'm wary the idea below won't really work given the time and distance, it needs rejigging **
Day 9: [need to get to Snaefellness]
Trollaskagi area (drive inland route)
Snaefellness attractions when I arrive in the afternoon
Day 10: [Snaefellness to Reykjavik]
Snaefellness attractions in the morning, then depart to Reykjavik in the afternoon
Consider returning rental car this evening or, Day 11 evening
Day 11: [Reykjavik and surrounds]
Into the Glacier or Into the Volcano tour in the first half of the day
Other attractions and shops in Reykjavik in the afternoon and evening
Fly off in the morning
