Trip Report My Topic Title-Amsterdam, Rovinj & Pazin Apartments and Hotel in Amsterdam

Jump to last reply

Just a quick review before I get to my (always lengthy but quite {normally} tardy) trip report for our latest vacation, August 25, 2015 to September 16, 2015. We stayed at three different places on this trip {Amsterdam, then on to Croatia- Rovinj and Pazin}. All were Awesome-clean and as advertised and all three places with friendly owners.

For the Amsterdam portion of our latest adventure we stayed at the Garden View Studio apartment owned by René and Ellen at Buiksloterdijk 296, 1034ZD Amsterdam

Highly recommend-bus very convenient to the train station/bus station just a pleasant walk away. It is not in the city center but in a neighborhood, which we love. There was a quirky local place a few doors away that we really enjoyed and a great little Thai restaurant several blocks away that we stopped at twice. A yummy bakery is also in the neighborhood.

There are several coffee makers in the kitchen and he had nice little treats in the fridge for us. The outdoor space is lovely and the bed and linens were fresh and comfortable. There was plenty of hot water for our showers and he offers a laundry service which we utilized right before we left.

René was very helpful, we arrived early and that wasn’t a problem and he helped us get a car for the airport on our departure day, in addition to letting us leave our bags there for the day (evening flight out).

Amsterdam was amazing and we really enjoyed our visit.

Second stop was after a puddle jumper (loaded with soccer revelers and running late) to Rovinj Croatia staying at Apartments Nimčević Apt-1 Ul. Andrije Motovunjanina 10, Rovinj

The Nimčević family kindly waited up for us until almost midnight as our flight was late and car rental place was closed (a story for another time). We called them and they assured us no problem, they would wait up for us and true to their word, they were at the front door when we arrived! Additionally an ice cold beer (huge bottle) along with a bottle of water was in the fridge for us.

The place was exactly as advertised. Another one not in the city center but with easy access to everything we were interested in seeing. There was a spot for our car in the enclosed yard area, a comfy bed, a coffee maker and a simply wonderful covered balcony. This place had floors you could eat off of, sincerely, it was Clean!! Additionally there was a full ironing board, iron and a very handy drying rack on the balcony.

About our 3rd or 4th day the Mrs. Came up with a plate of some homemade goodies-fudge and some cake-how sweet is that? Highly recommend this place, the owners are onsite and really are concerned that your holiday is a good one. Ours sure was!

Our third stop was Pazin and we stayed at Apartment Diana, Zagrebačka 29, 52000 Pazin.

We arrived a little early and their lovely daughter Diana got us situated with the place.

It is an entire upper flat. Another place with balcony, coffee maker, comfy bed and in a quiet neighborhood. Parking was across the street. Also a washing machine and handy clothes line on a small side balcony. Our welcome present here was a wonderful bowl of fruit that lasted the entire stay (some from their own garden).

We were invited to have an aperitif (some terrific homemade grappa) downstairs with them in their flat. Lots of smart conversation. We asked if the family would like to join us for dinner so he called and changed the reservations. We had a lovely dinner with the family-they took care of the ordering and we had “family style” at the restaurant. In return they had us for dinner in their home a few nights before our holiday ended to enjoy a “typical” Istrian supper-topped off by a delicious dessert, with plenty of great wine and more interesting conversation. Connecting with people is why we travel. I would say this was truly the highlight of our trip. We loved visiting with the Matić family.

We had to fly back to Amsterdam and had an overnight stay before our flight home.

The room was comfortable and the windows are good, we did not hear all the crazy traffic outside. For dinner we decided to not eat at the hotel because it all seemed quite chaotic. The little bar is also sort of chaotic but everyone was very friendly and ultra helpful. While chatting with another guest in the bar she suggested a nice restaurant in the area so we had the bartender get us a cab and we dined offsite. The restaurant called us a taxi to get back after dinner so it was quite seamless. We enjoyed the breakfast the next day, it seemed much more organized and there was a wide variety to choose from.

The hotel has a free shuttle to the airport. Would recommend this hotel as well.
