My route from Barcelona to San Sebastian thoughts??

Hi again,
I have this route chosen so far based on threads read throughout these forums... Will do this with 2 overnight stops (leaving Barcelona 30th August) before arriving in San Sebastian for 3 nights
Would love to know your thoughts on scenery, must see stops etc... or is there a better route.. or can you really go wrong?
http://www.viamichelin.com/web/Route...nce=&corridor=

We love driving, interested in seeing the magnificent views, and experiencing great food and wines.

Thanks

Hi!

I will not comment about your route, as I was not there.

A couple of years ago, we did , and liked, a route starting in Barcelona, to Zaragoza, soend one day, Logroño, spend one day with day trip to Pamplona, and then, Bilbao, for some three days, with day trip to San Sebastian.

Of course I lnow your final destination is San Sebastian, but may be you can do a day trip to Bilbao and its magnificent Guggelheim Museum .

Just giving you some ideas...by the way, we really liked Zaragoza and found Logroño dull.

Enjoy your trip!

Hi kc,

You might wish to consider overnighting up in the mountains Hospedería de Roda de Isábena.

Lovely accommodations in a restored mountain village with a very old Cathedral.

Enjoy your visit.

Mmmmm.....many many will disagree with me, but I will put Bilbao at the same leven than San Sebastian. Of course, no so many Michelin stars in Bilbao, but you can eat realy well in Bilbao, and...who goes to Michelin starred restarants two or three das in a row?

Mi advice, is at least visit Bilbao as a day trip, enjoy the Guggelheim, and the Puppy (google the Puppy).
To me, and this is just my opinion, this museum is world class, not for the art but for the building itself.

Two different and charming cities, in different ways.

It's a route that works for me, been over it a few times. The only things you need to do is to be aware that part of the 260 and 240 have speed cameras, and be sure you have you accommodations taken care of.

Although my experience is extraordinarily limited, I would venture to say that I think that route could work well.

I had a very strong interest in visiting the Valle de Boi, and so planned two nights in Taull -- and was glad I did! To do that, I visited only Torla on my way from San Sebastian / Donostia to Taull. I had considered each of the other stops you listed, and decided that they did not meet my priorities sufficiently to include them. JMO.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the heads up Robert2533 will take note of those cameras

kja thanks, will have a look at Taull too... This route is only a suggestion for now... With feedback and reading other posts, it is a work in progress...

Bilbao and San Sebastián are two fabulous and very different sister cities. Have visited both on a very regular basis the past 30 years, and San Sebastián is my favourite city on the planet. Very to the point intros to both:

Hi KC,

When you visit Bilbao and the Guggenheim, you will find a work that looks like this
http://www.guggenheim-bilbao.es/en/w...atter-of-time/

If you walk between the steel plates going "hoo hoo" you will come to a point where the installation echoes.

I don't know if the artist planned it that way.

It is the second best thing in the museum. The Puppy is best.

There is a gelato shop close to the museum.

Hi Newby (and Ira) :

" The Mattermof Time" is located in the Aecelor Mittal hall, so. Named because of the big steel company that donates the steel plated sed in this work. To me, the best piece of art in the museum.

The gelato shop near the Guggenheim, as far as I remember , is Amorino, which I love!

Kimhe great links, always helpful I'm stating to wonder if 3 days is enough.....
Plans are still evolving so we may be tempted to extend the timing....

Ira hopefully when we yell 'hoo hoo' we won't get funny looks, although we are Australian so anything goes

Really looking forward to this adventure.....
