My final Prague itinerary

Hi folks,

I'm posting this again, because it went unnoticed in am unrelated thread:

Day 1:

• Astronomical clock and Old Town Hall

• Our Lady before Tyn

• Church of St. James

• Municipal House

• Jewish Quarter

• Convent of St. Agnes

Day 2:

• The Loreta

• Strahov Library

• Prague Castle and St. Vitus

• St.Nicholas Church

• Wallenstein Gardens

• Kampa Park

• Charles Bridge

Day 3:

• Vysehrad Citadel

• Wenceslas Square

• National Memorial of the Heroes of the Heydrich Terror

Day 4:

• National Gallery

• Letna Gardens

Day 5:

• Day trip to Dresden

Day 6:

• Morning train to Cesky Krumlov

(Sleep in Cesky Krumlov)

Day 7:

• See more of Cesky Krumlov

• Afternoon bus to Prague

Thoughts? Am I spending too much time in Prague? Do you think I can squeeze in a day trip to Terezin instead of visiting the National Gallery, or would that be too much?

I visited Prague last Sumner. Your itinerary looks good to me.

I think you can cram in a visit to Terezin. You need 3 days to see the highlights of Prague.

Try a visit the Charles Bridge early in the morning as it gets very busy from about 9.30 onwards. I was there at 6.00 am and had it all to myself and also saw the statues against the early morning sky. Stunning. We also did a river cruise in the evening. Such a relaxing thing to do and gives you good views of the city from the water. Good hot chips and beer on board. We took a trip in an old car from the Mala Strana side of the bridge and he took us around town and up to the castle. Enjoyed that too.

Day 1 seems a little light, unless you are planning to thoroughly tour your chosen areas?

If you're a morning person, Karlovy Most is best at that time. If you're not a morning person, well, sorry. Your photos will mostly be of other people.

Maybe arrange the Day 2 itinerary to start with Prague Castle? Again, people.

If you are traveling on a Saturday, the farmer's market near Vsyehrad would make for full-on cultural exposure to local living.

Fourforrtravel, I'm planning to see the attractions around Old Town square and the Jewish Museum with its many synagogues. Don't they require a full day?

>>

Good point, think I better start with Prague Castle then.

Loacker, having now fully described your Day 1 itinerary, you may have a full day, depending on how in depth your visits to the synagogues and the museum will be. I think your Day 1 will be fine.

If this itinerary were mine, I would visit Terezin over the National Gallery. HOWEVER, my travel interests are more historical than artsy.

I hope you find this helpful.

Thank you fourfortravel.

Do I need to buy any museum pass?
I've noticed that the adnmission feed are really high.

Prague Castle is $15 ($27 including Lobkowikz palace)

The Jewish Museum is $21

What's up with these prices?

Just for clarification, the Jewish Museum itself is ~€12; the combined ticket for access to all of the synagogues and the cemetery is ~€19. So, Prague Castle/Lobkowitz Palace/Jewish Museum complex total cost would be ~€47. The two day Prague Card costs ~€58 and fully covers the Jewish Museum Complex and Prague Castle, with a discounted admission to Lobkowitz. You'll have to look at the other attractions you are visiting to see if you can recover the difference in two days and rearrange your schedule; otherwise a pass would not be worth the cost.

I get the costs for the Jewish Museum complex; there is considerable maintenance needed. As for the castle, perhaps it's a way of controlling the crowds?

I think the itinerary looks fine. There certainly is plenty of maintenance required for the entire castle complex, also. I don't consider that price ($15) unusual at all, it covers many different areas and buildings, you can see that by what it lists and the map of the complex, as well as some exhibits. It isn't just one building. You can spend 12 euro just going to one museum in Paris, after all.

The Lobkowitz Palace is privately owned and kept, so they have no reason to allow admission for low cost to tourists. I didn't go in there nor pay for that, I wouldn't regard that as a must-see for any particular reason. Their ticket at $13 is about the price of the expensive museums in Paris. Old Masters are not my particular favorite art period, anyway, there are plenty of those in the National Gallery. YOu can get a ticket that covers 6 of the National Gallery sites for only about US$10, for example (including Sternberg Palace and St Agnes Convent).

Suggest you learn a few words of Czech - like thanks, hello, good-bye, etc - a little effort goes a long way IME with locals!

LOL PalenQ. Dobry den!

Christina, thanks. I'm in Prague now (loving it), I took the short Castle Tour the other day but I've noticed that there are no furnished castle interiors to be visited like at Versailles.

Even the Old Royal Palace was empty. You can only marvel at the vaulted ceiling.

The only draw for me was St. Vitus Cathedral wow, what a church!
It's officially my second favorite cathedral after Notre Dame de Paris.

The Golden Lane, Old Royal Palace, and St. George's Basilica were mildly interesting. The latter is only saved by its baroque facade. It's too austere on the inside it makes my neighborhood church look interesting. But I guess that's Romanesque architecture for you.

Hahaha not that I know of but seriously there's something wrong with this forum. My question got reported again. Apparently some people can't handle too much liberalism.

That's stupid Whathello. If you drink alcohol, you shouldn't be giving lectures about weed.

There's no proof that weed is more or less harmful than alcohol. The reason a question about "good cocktail bars in Amsterdam" doesn't raise any eyebrows is because alcohol is a socially-accepted drug.

Read some littérature.
I have other ideas of threads.
' where can I find a club echangiste in Amsterdam ?
' on what beach can I run naked at 2 am ?
' where can I find a school to become a good troll ?

All of it legal and natural.

Should we really make threads about that ?
