Going to Sweden late June/early July. What is a "must" to see and do and what would be best avoided? Thanks to anyone who can help.

Stockholm: The WASA. This is a ship that sank in the harbor in 1620 and was recovered in 1962 well preserved. nice tour. Visit the old town. Down the coast visit the town of Orrefors and the famous crystal factory. We found good prices in the factory store. Compare a few pieces in the US and then price there and you will see. The island of Bornholm was also fun. Small towns and nice restaurants. Watch out for the Moose when driving.

In Stockholm, which is one of the most beatiful cities in the world, I also will recommend the "Skansen" outdoor museum which is "Sweden in a nutshell". It is easy to take the bus from the city centre to this museum. A boattrip around the city is also highly recommended. Nils

Stockholm is absolutely a "must see". The old town is beautiful. If you have time, take a trip to The Åland Islands, for a day, or more. There are several trips a day from Stockholm, Grisslehamn and Kapellskär. Åland belongs to Finland, but swedish speaking. It´s a group of about 6500 islands. There is a Åland information centre in Stockholm where you can get all the information needed.

2:Glassworks in the province of Smaland. (Kosta, Orrefors and Boda) about 250 miles south of Stockholm.

Beautiful mailing pieces. Sweden: A Magazine for Visitors to the Royal Kingdom of Sweden. And "What's On In Stockholm" -- a small folder with tons of information. We went to Sweden last year, and I suppose we are on the Council's mailing list. Suggest you get this stuff pronto!

I was in Sweden in June of 1992. My first trip to Europe and I cannot say enough about how beautiful Scandinavia is. Someone who posted earlier recommended the western coast from Goteborg to Norway's border. Do it. And if you have time, keep going. Keep driving into Oslo and then head west towards the southern fjords. The main road loops around the Hardangervidda through Konsberg, Odda, and Geilo. This was the most amazing land I have ever seen. Hard to believe but the northern Norwegians we met all told us we must visit the north of the country to see the real beauty! We were staying in Boras, Sweden, approx. 1 hr east of Goteborg (which is a beautiful town itself) and we made our loop into Norway in two days. I cannot recommend that drive enough. I second the advise about Gotheburg/Goteborg
and not you because I grew up there.
Stockholm is worth seeing but because it is the Culture Capital of Europe this years there are many more visitors this year. This means fewer empty hotelrooms and higher rates. Gothenburg the front side of Sweden, with its many events is well worth it. Don't misspaddaing sightseeing the canals, Alvsborgs fortress outside the harbour. The Kunsgports Avenue

Don't know your time limits... but Visby on Gotland is a delight. I believe there is a ferry from Stockholm.

In Stockholm: Gamla Stan at night; if in June/July, waking up at 3 a.m. to see the summer dawn; and something not many people go to, but oh my it's incredible, Millesgarden.
