Carol - how about tea? You can either get it from a shop found in most big cities called Whittards or just go to any big supermarkets such as Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda, Marks and Spencer and buy the luxury brands - a good starting point would be the Tesco Finest range

Other ideas are biscuits (such as shortbread) and candy bars. Marmalade is another good present.

Alternatively you could get more city focused souvenirs - excuse me if this is obvious but Beatles souvenirs from Liverpool, Manchester United football gear from Manchester, Robin Hood momentoes from Nottingham

Hope this helps
Andrew

Well Nottingham is famous for its lace so you may want to consider that.

Liverpool - home of the Beatles (!) Suggest a visit to the Albert Docks - loads to see/do/buy. It also has a good naval museum (western approaches during the war) - a nautical gift may be appropriate.

Manchester - more and more cosmopolitan - famous mostly for its football team (boo!) and industrial heritage. Castleford (in the centre) has the canals running thru it so perhaps some canal boat art would be a good reminder.

Personally, I always try and buy a small print or sketch of the places I visit - a truly lasting memory.

Have a nice time.
Rae

Carol,

When I went to Windsor I bought some souvenir teapots. The one I bought my sister has kings and queens of england on it and the top is pointed like a crown. I bought one for my Grandma that has Windsor Castle on it. And of I had to buy one for myself. It has scenes from London, eg. the tower of London, big ben, the gaurds etc. I am so glad that I bought them. On my way home I also saw some at the airport. They were about 20 pounds in 2000.

we like to purchase christmas ornaments as souvenirs from places we visit. the tower of london had felt fabric ones decorated like the guards, henry the eighth and each of his six wives, etc. we enjoy bringing the Lush products home as gifts for others as well as ourselves. for a golfing friend we purchased a kit of golf tees, ball marker etc. all marked with the Harrod's logo and the recipient loved it. someone on this site recently said they purchased soccer tshirts from lillywhites that were a big hit. the harrod's brand of belgian chocolates are excellent and a much better price than godiva. can also recommend harrod's morello cherry preserves.

You'd be much better off buying Liverpool football gear, since Lpool is the most successful British team in history.

In Liverpool, head to the Tate Gallery on Albert Docks--it's a branch of the London Tate. In addition to touring the gallery, you can buy a lot of prints in the gift shop.

Carol: I love the leather bookmarks. Most places we visited have them in the gift shops. They're easy to bring home and I have a niece I give them to as she too is a collector. Have several from London and other places in England, as well as Scotland, and even found one in Florence. I have since started buying bookmarks of other materials from places we visit. Have one of tapa cloth I got in Hawaii; one with live flowers laminated in it with a bright red tassel from Bermuda; paper ones from France and Spain that I bought in the art museums.

Valuent gave good advice about the Christmas ornaments. We do the same thing and I love my Queen's Horse Guard, Beefeater in full red regalia, etc. I bought several of these ornaments and have since been given a couple by friends who visited London. When I decorate our Christmas tree each ornament from someplace we have visited brings back good memories of that trip.

I don't bring the following any longer because I can buy them here: Lyles Syrup; lemon curd; short bread (particularly with ginger) and jars of clotted cream.

Have fun shopping.

j

ps: Almost forgot. We buy soccer shirts for our young nephews who are avid players and they love them. We bought them in Italy, but they would be available in Britain as well.

Manchester United Memorabilia.

One of my big regrets in travelling to asia is that I did not take small Man Utd souvenirs to give to those wonderful people there. So if you travel wide get some trinkets from Manchester for yourself and potential friends in Asia (and probably elsewhere).

Steve
