Munich transportation from Airport to city

Will be arriving in Munich on December 5 and will be staying at the Holiday Inn City Centre, anyone know if there is transportation from the airport to the hotel area? We are about 2-3 blocks from the Marienplatz. It states that a taxi from the airport could cost about 75 Euros.

Take the train from the airport to Marienplatz. Either the S-1 or the S-8 will stop there. That's the cheapest way.

The S-Bahn costs around 9 euro per person each way. And if you happen to arrive without any euro, you can buy the tickets with credit or debit cards.

When we arrived in Munich, just the two of us, the attendant at the ticket counter advised us to buy a family ticket which was cheaper than individual fares, and it was good for the entire day, taking the U-bahn in town.

I personally prefer the Lufthansa bus that run about every 20 minutes to the main train station. It is a about the same price.

I find riding it to be more comfortable. Your luggage is locked in the baggage compartment and handed back by the driver.

The bus makes one stop between the airport and the train station.

I have used both means, S-Bahn and bus, and my preference is for the bus.

If you are staying in the Marienplatz area, the walk from the Hauptbahnhof with luggage won't be so great. If you take the train from the Hauptbahhof, then you might as well take it from the airport and avoid another connection.

If you DO use the S-Bahn be aware that line S-8 will probably get you to the Marienplatz a little faster than will Line S-1 since S-8 stops at the Marienplatz before arriving at the main rail station and S-1 stops there after arrival at the station.

If you check the maps prior to departure you'll understand this more fully. There probably isn't that much difference in time spent but this might be worth consideration.
