Munich to St. Anton and skiing
Hello
A large group of friends is planning to go to St Anton for a week or longer around New Years 2006 /2007.
Does anyone know if you can take the train from the Munich airport to St. Anton or do you need to take a train to Munich then to St Anton?
Any insight about St Anton? We will be renting a house and much of the crew enjoy club action.

I'm virtually certain you'll first need to take the S-Bahn into Munich Hauptbanhof and then go from there, presumably through Innsbruck.
I haven't stayed at St. Anton, but did ski there a couple years ago on a day trip from a week in Lech. If you're looking for nightlife, like I was when I was about 35 years younger, try to spend a day/evening in Ischgl. Believe me, you've never seen anything like the apres ski scene in Ischgl. On second thought, that would be "day/evening/morning" in the case of Ischgl. The skiing is pretty good too.

For train schedules go to the German Rail web site: www.bahn.de - an easy way to find this excellent site's English schedule page, which has schedules for trains in all of Europe, not just Germany, is to go to: www.budgeteuropetravel.com and on their home page click on the link "All European Railroad Schedules" and instantly pops up the English schedule page of the German site. Bookmark it and you'll have the best portal to European train schedules i've found. Exact trains for that far in advance won't be loaded yet but schedules pretty much remain the same throughout the year - weekend schedules could vary from weekdays however. On the home page i referenced there are also several tips on how to get the most out of the superb German rail site.
Yes you first must take the train to Munich's main station then to Innsbruck and St Anton.
There could be some kind of mini-buses or buses during ski season from the airport right to St Anton but i have no info on those but suspect they exist.

Apre ski in Ischgl is over rated, In the sense no difference than St Anton, both are nuts. Actually St antons better cause apre ski is on the mountain. Ischgls apre ski is more in the village and outdoors. Unless I missed the mountain ones. But Ischgl gets this rep for the best apre ski ever, well, yes but so is St Anton.
But on that note I took the train from Munich not the airport to ST Anton with no changes just find that train, from memory its 3 hours, from Zurich its 2 1/2 hours.
If you need any info on St Anton you can email me I have been there 6-7 times.
St Anton has two clubs if you call it that, one the kandhar opens at 2 am and is as dark, stinky and as skeevy as you can get.
Mostly you find bars in St Anton, really only 3 good ones at night.
Piccadely is the best has live music in the pub side and the other side is a club, costs 5 euro to get into both. Gets really crowded like dangerous crowded, no restrictions on amount of people.
The other bar would be club cuba and the funky chicken.
As much as I love St Anton it is a step down from Ischgl in class and age. Ischgls skiing is better also more wide open and also easier. Ischgl would be to me the best ski resort I have been to in Europe.
There are not many houses in town, they might not be walking distance to the slopes try an apartment or a hotel.

Ishgle is awesome and St. Anton (along with it's access to Lech/Zuers) is great too. We've enjoyed Serfaus/Fiss/Ladis although it's a completely different atmosphere- very wholesome and family friendly.
Any other major Austrian resorts that are worth a trip from the US? We need reliable snow, sunny tendency, lots of terrain and natural beauty.
