We're ending a coach tour in Munich and starting the next one 6 days later in Frankfurt. Thought we'd stay in Trier in between and wondered how to get a train between the three cities. Also is Trier a good place to stay?

Not sure where you are from, but here is the USA site for the Deutsche Bahn, the German Rail site. It is very easy to use and can answer all your German rail travel questions.

I always really liked Trier. Fairly small and charming with lots of sights; Churches, a small palace, nice museum, and very good Roman ruins. It is also a great place to travel up the Mosel and on to the Rhine. You can easily get to Cochem, Koblenz, Luxembourg City, and Burg Eltz. It's about a 6.5 hour train ride from Munich.
I liked Trier and as agedude says, it easy daytrips to many places including all he has mentioned.
Depending on where your tours are going there are lots of options for you. Trier is a bit out of the way. Do you especially want to stay in Germany. How about considering Prague, Vienna, Budapest or eve Amsterdam, Brussels or Paris?
