Munich Salzburg Vienna Prague
We are leaving for Europe this weekend for 19 days and plan to spend time in all of the cities listed.
We have a timeshare in the Salzburg area and plan on staying there either 4 or 5 days depending on what we want to do the rest of the trip.
We fly in and out of Munich and I planned on driving to our time share near Salzburg (3.5 hours map quest) after we arrive at 8 pm. (driving back to Lake Chiemsee as a day trip.)
Questions, should we spend the night in Munich and do the day trip the next day to our time share so we dont miss the drive? Also, are there any adjustments you would make to the following itenary and are there must see places along the route. We originaly planned to go to Budapest until I chose Prague over Budapest based on internet information. Rest of the itinerary...
Salzburg (1 hour away) 5 nights
Vienna 4 nights
Prague 4 nights
Germany area 3 nights (including Regensburg)
Return to Munich 3 nights
We are driving and I'm not worried about paying to park in the big cities. It's still cheaper and more convenient than dropping off cars and picking them back up.
Thanks for any advice any of you may have. Thanks!

Salzburg - maybe take one or 2 nights off and put them in Hallstatt if you have not been there - one of the real highlights of Alpine Austria -set on a lovely lovely lake and surrounded by ice-girdled peaks - great hikes - salt mine tour like in Salzburg, etc. Could be a day trip but a few hours each way from Salzburg.

Check out Bad Ischl too - especially the former hunting lodge of some Emperor of Austria-Hungary some Franz-Josef with zillions of hunting trophies all over the place, right in Bad Ischl which I believe you have to pass thru from Hallstatt to get to the fabled Lake District.

I'd spend a night in Cesky Krumlov on the way from Vienna to Prague.
Very cute town! If you go, do try to get tickets to tour the baroque theater at the castle. Only a few tours per day in English and number of participants are limited to maybe 20 people or so.
St. Wolfgang is worth a visit too!

I don't know where you are flying from, but if there is any possibility of jet lag, you might want to stay in Munich that night. I find driving an unfamiliar car on unfamiliar roads a bit stressful, and would hate to do that if not well rested. And for me, at least, jet lag can set in quite suddenly.

We've been through the Alps part of our trip. We loved Lake Chiemsee and are glad we spent the nght in the area. Also went to Halstatt and Bad Ischl (had dinner there twice, and enjoyed the spa one day.)
We only spent one day in Salzburg, but spent four in Vienna and now 5 in Prague, all good decisions we think.
