Munich-Paris

We want to take our kids to Europe for the first time. They will be 11 and 8 when we travel this Sept/Oct for 2-3 weeks.

We are thinking a journey from Munich to Paris would be a good first trip with a stop at Europa Park at the midpoint. We are looking for everyone's favorite places (with kids) within this area.

We do not need to make a "B-line" between the two places and could even do side trips to Switzerland/Belgium/maybe even north Italy. Who has traveled with kids?? What were your fav spots? We may combine drive/train. We like museums, beer gardens, castles, medieval sites, WWII history, good & local food, bike rides, interesting examples of sustainable European practices. Thank you.
