Munich Outdoor Beer Gardens in April?
Hello, my wife and I are planning to trip to Munich in the Spring. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the outdoor beer gardens in April. I know that outdoor spaces typically close for the winter. When do they typically begin opening? If we go too early in April will we miss out on some gardens? Thanks!

Hopefully someone have specific information about Munich. We have traveled to Bavaria (Bamberg, Würzburg, Nürnberg, Augsburg & Regensburg) several times in April. Biergartens seem to open based on the weather rather than a set date. If it is warm and pleasant, they seem happy for the additional revenue that comes with setting up tables outside. We have been there in rain and snow; obviously no Biergartens in that case.

When in April? We were at the Augustiner-Keller one on April 21, 2012 and everything was open. We went back mid-November 2015 and the outdoor seating area was available, but they were just not selling food outside. The only people I saw who sat outside were ones who wanted to smoke and drink at the same time. But I suppose you could order food inside and eat it outside if you're used to the cold.

Technically, the beer gardens start to prepare for the outdoor season around Easter. But as GaryMC wrote, it will more a matter of weather than an exact date that food and beer will be available from the outdoor stalls. They don't wait for bright sunshine to open, but as you still can have solid snow on the ground in early April, it's a gamble during the first and second week of April. The larger beer gardens like Hirschgarten or Augustinerkeller may also open some outdoor seating during colder weather while smaller ones will remain closed (outdoors, but not indoors as every beer garden is in fact also a pub).
