Munich lodging
Can anyone recommend nice lodging for 2 people in Munich, in the $100-200 price range, has parking available, and is within walking distance of the Marienplatz and other major sights?
Thanks.
Thanks.

This depends on when you are going to Munich. If you are going during Oktoberfest or one of the other big demand dates it will be higher priced. There are tons of hotels in all price ranges near the main train station which is convenient to the pedestrian zone and Marienplatz. I am not sure about the parking part of it, you may end up putting the car in a nearby parking garage.
Two places the I can think of that might have parking are the Uhland, near the Oktoberfest grounds (@ 8-10 blocks further from the Mitte than the ones close to the trian station)or the Rhinebolt Hotel very close to the train station. We like both hotels.
Perhaps a little higher but right in the middle of the action is the Platzl Hotel and the Blauer Bock. I don't know if they have parking.
One thing to consider, depending on how long you will be in Munich, is to turn in your rent car (if that is what you are driving) while you are in Munich. Parking and traffic are a hassel and public transportation is good. You can pick up another car on the way out of town. Just remember to pick up rental cars in Germany at a rental lot away from an airport or train station or you get hit with a 19% surcharge.

CarolynAnn: Our hotel of choice when staying in Munich is the Platzl. It's about as close to Marienplatz as you can get and is just around the corner from the Hofbrauhaus, if you're able to identify that on a map. The Platzl is a cut above average, has Bavarian decor and charm but is not pretentious. They have their own underground parking garage with elevators that take you directly to the floor on which your room is located. The convenience to Marienplatz, the Viktualein Market, Hofbrauhaus, Dinkelacher Haxenbauer Restaurant, etc. plus the security of private underground parking are all well worth the modest upscale cost.

If you do stay at the Platzl do not take a room facing the Hofbrauhaus. It can get very noisy late at night when the drunks start leaving.
I didn't know this when I got the room but got a rude awakening at around midnight. I was there during Oktoberfest and that might have made it worse.
