Munich hotels/Chistmas markets

We will be arriving by train from Nuremberg on Dec. 5, flying out Dec. 8 from Danube Christmas Market cruise. Would like to make the most of time in Munich. Wondering where a reasonably priced hotel might be that we could use. Am not familiar with the city, so have no idea where ideal location to stay would be. Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance!

We stayed at the Sofitel Bayerpost http://www.sofitel.com/gb/hotel-5413...erpost/‎ located directly next to the train station. It is within walking distance to Marienplatz, a wonderful historic area of the city where the Glockenspiel is located. There is a great spa, very unique indoor pool and an outstanding breakfast buffet ( a little pricey but very good) We enjoyed this hotel so much we ended up staying there again at the end of our three weeks touring Germany and Austria. The staff was very helpful and friendly as well.

There are several markets.

For us it is easiest to visit them by the public transportation system. We have stayed twice at the Hotel Bristol which is right at the Sendlinger Tor ubahn station. There is also a Motel One located near by. You can walk to the large central market Marienplatz. There is a small market right at Sendlinger Tor. It is a easy ride to Schwabbing and the Middle Ages markets.

There are many good choices in that area or near the station.

We really liked the Hotel Platzl, about a block from the main square and the food market.

I have stayed at these hotels, which are within walking distance to the Marienplatz.
Hotel Reinbold
Holiday Inn City Centre

Have fun! My favorite Christmas market is the one in Munich.

We really like the little Hotel Reinbold that KL467 mentioned. It is among the dozens of hotels close to the train station and close to the pedestrian zone. Munich's big Christmas market is at Marienplatz and there is the cresch market a block away and a medieval market three blocks away. Munich has 20 markets around the city.
