How much time do you have for your trip? When? By "itinerary ideas" do you mean in Munich and Paris or other ideas? With the trips from Munich to Paris and back you will lose a day - is that factored in to your trip? Really hard to make suggestions since you seem to have almost no time in either place.

One thing to consider, if you really want to go to Paris, would be to fly. Train travel from Munich to Paris takes a pretty long time. Flying is quick on the plane, though of course you have to consider the time getting to/from the airport, check-in etc. Flight costs within Europe are generally pretty low, and it might be less than taking the train. Can you just depart from Paris instead of going back to Munich?

We arrive in Munich on a Tuesday and then depart the following monday. We want to go to Paris during this time but RyanAir or FlyingBee(budget air) does not fly out of Munich to Paris. Once we arrive in Munich we plan to do the BMW tour on one day(already booked). Wanted suggestions for other stuff to do/see and hotel in Munich?

Check trip advisor for "other stuff to do/see" and Booking.com, hotel.com, Accor.com or Venere.com for hotels...

Personally, I would not waste the time (and money and wear and tear on the body) riding a train both ways between Munich and Paris. I would stay around the Munich/Garmisch/Fussen/Salzburg area for the 6 days.

But if going skipping Paris is not an option, get off the plane in Munich and catch a train directly to Paris, if this doesn't interfere with the BMW tour. You will have (some) jet lag and you can rest up with some sleep on the train. Then consider returning to Munich via a night train to save another travel day.

I once did a one week trip like this but spent the whole week in Paris. Didn't even have time for a day trip... Good luck!

I love Munich!
You should visit Marienplatz, see the Glockenspeil & eat at the Hofbrauhaus.
Go to Englisher Garten, beautiful huge park with a Central Park feel (clothing optional) but really most are clothed especially in early spring.
Visit Nymphenburg Palace, there is a double decker bus tour that you can hop off and on that goes here.
Go watch the surfers in the canal, if it's warm enough.
Visit Dachau concentration camp, very sobering piece of history.
If you had more time I would say take a day trip to Neuschwanstein Castle.
Street markets are great as well.

We stayed at the Sofitel Munich Bayerpost, it was wonderful, I would highly recommend it. It is located right by the train station and within walking distance of Marienplatz. It has an amazing breakfast too, a little pricey but so great.

As far as Paris goes, it really depends if you have been there or not. The subway system makes it very easy to get around, and hop from area to area. I would say get a travel book look over the sites then choose top 3. Also, make sure to just walk around and enjoy the feel of the city.
If you are very short on time instead of waiting to go up the Eiffel, go at night and see its beauty with the lights then take a river cruise down the Seine. Skip the Louvre (unless it is a bucket list thing) and go to the Orsay, filled with amazing art and doesn't take near as much time. Plus, there is a wonderful little cafe at the top behind the famous clock (the HUGO clock)
I really enjoyed walking around the St Germaine area, prefer it over the Champs de Elysees area which is much like any other large city shopping area.
Paris Opera house, Notre Dame, Rodin Museum, Sacre Coeur, Moulin Rouge, Arch de Triomphe... so much to see and do, it really depends what is important to you.

If you really one to go to Paris....you can take the early morning train that leaves Munich at 6:27 arriving Paris 12:35. It is a pretty ride and only takes about 6 hours. The nice thing about the train is that it is city center to city center and more dependable than flights. I know it's early but the later trains are longer rides. You can purchase a nice breakfast right in the station shops to take with you.
I do not know your budget but you can also take the CityNightLine sleeper between Munich and Paris. The train leaves Munich at 22:50 arrives Paris at 9:20. The return leaves Paris 20:50 arrives Munich 7:10.
The website for "man in seat 61" will tell you everything about train travel. To see actual schedules use the German rail site at bahn.de. You can choose English language or other languages.
You might take a look at Munich Walks. They have some interesting tours around Munich and very reasonably priced.

Since your time is limited you might consider spending the entire time in the Munich area. You could do a day trip to Salzburg. We often do the Munich-Paris combo but not with such limited days. You will lose time in travel but if you are set on those two cities, go for it!

Hi lt,

>We are arriving in Munich and then plan to spend 2 days there and then go to Paris for 2 days and go back to Munich <

I can understand flying into Paris for 3 days and then going to Munich, or VV. Why are you wasting 2 days going back and forth?

in hindsight, I should of booked by flight back from paris. The train looks like the best option right now. I did notice Switzerland and Austria being closer by to Munich. Would anyone recommend going to these places instead of paris?

Paris is a city, Switzerland and Austria are countries, hence not comparable. By raising the question, it appears that Paris is not imperative. I would stick to Munich and Bavaria in general. A guidebook (Fodor's perhaps?) might be useful to get an idea of what there is to see.

You can be in Switzerland and Austria a lot quicker than you can get to Paris if that's any help.

Austria is gorgeous!
Salzburg is one of my favorite cities, and it would be more doable in your timeframe.
Paris is a city that really needs a little more time, however if you are dying to go to Paris and don't think you will have the opportunity to visit there again don't skip, it if you will regret it.
With that said no trip rushing from place to place is going to be very enjoyable.

You will have to make the call.

I have some fun ideas if you decide to visit Salzburg.

It sounds like you just want to see some other country during your trip, so yes, I think you should choose some other place that is more convenient by train to Munich. Innsbruck would be easy, I think, as well as Salzburg, but you won't get the big city experience there.

You can get a direct train to Vienna in only 4 hrs, that is probably your best bit city bet in another country by train.

Otherwise, choose a city where you CAN get there easily on a direct flight by a cheap airline. This would be Edinburgh or London on Easyjet, for example.

I am not going to go to paris, as all of you stated, we would be spending too much time on a train.
We are now thinking about Munich then go to Stuttgart and then go to Salzburg.
Any recommendations on these visits?

Have you looked at a map? Stuttgart is in one direction, Salzburg almost in the opposite direction. You are wasting time traveling.
