Mougins French Riviera
Is Mougins a good base for the French Riviera or is it not very central?
want to visit St Jean Cap Ferrat, Eze Village, St. Paul de Vence....
3-night stay late August, 7:15am early morning departure out of Nice - is Mougins too far??
$200-300/night budget for hotel
will have a rental car
like idea of country feel, would love distant sea view...also considering St Paul de Vence as base...is this is a better, more practical choice than Mougins?
also looking at Le Metropole in Beaulieu
would love hotel in Cap Ferrat, but cannot find a nice one for a good price (Brise Marine does not get great reviews lately)
any comments?? thanks so much!!

Mougins could be a good area as a base, as from there you would have easy access to main roads. Unfortunately, though, as you have learned, Mougins is pricey.
If it's a distant sea view you hanker for, take a look at the small hotel Le Hameau, just down the hill from St-Paul-de-Vence. Some of the rooms look out across the valley toward the Mediterranean, and the view from the pool is great. From the hotel it's about a 20-minute drive down to the coast and just a bit more to the Nice airport.
Le Hameau sits in a citrus grove. The hotel is a series of buildings converted from a farm property; each room is different, and all are very Provençal in feel. If by any chance you can get a reservation for August you will be very happy.

If you decide to stay elsewhere, book your hotel ASAP. Many of the better ones will be full by now, but you might chance on a cancellation.

I enjoyed staying in Mougins at the hotel "Les Muscadins" on 2 different occasions. It is a former private mansion with a gourmet restaurant and a terrace with views over the Bay of Cannes. There are only about 10 rooms but some have a sea view which we also prefer.

Our very favorite room is, I think, #2, which has twin beds, a large sitting area, a loggia with a view out to the sea, and a good-sized bathroom with lots and lots of storage space--and a window, too. It's the second one down on the left in the site's photos--lots of orange and gold.
If you're interested, some of the rooms have kitchens.

We stayed in a timeshare in Mougins and it was a fantastic location! Mougins itself is quite nice as well in the old town--lots of good restaurants and the Picasso Gallery is great, especially the view from the 3rd floor.
