Hello!
The idea of touring France by motorhome and houseboat was very appealing to us because we wanted to prepare our own meals and experience the various regional foodstuffs. However our well-travelled friends told us that the campgrounds would not be as nice as the state parks in America and, in fact, approached congested shanty towns. They also said that for the most part, the the rivers were filthy and polluted, and we would have to put up with the stench from things such as sewage, industrial waste, etc.
Needless to say, this has had a chilling effect on our travel plans for the Autumn of 1998. I would greatly appreciate confirmation or contradiction of this information and, if you contradict it, I would appreciate any and all reference sources we could us in planning this type of trip.
