Most Luxurious Hotel in Rome

Which hotel would you consider the best in Rome, preferably in or within walking distance of the old city. This is for a honeymoon, so the cost doesn't matter. A quiet location is preferred. Thank you.

Most of the luxury hotels in Rome are not in quiet locations. The Hotel de Russie has gardens that isolate it from the hubbub, and it's in a convenient location.

The Aldrovandi Palace is in a reasonably quiet location, but it's on the far side of the Villa Borghese and not very convenient.

The Hassler is at the top of the Spanish Steps, and a room to the back should be quiet, even if the location isn't.

Within walking distance of the Old City? The Raphael.

If I could stay at any hotel in Rome, I would stay at the de Russie.

The Hassler is very old money.

The Exedra is very luxurious, but I don't know if you would like the location in the Piazza Repubblica.

I expect that ONE DAY the Hsssler is finally going to figure out that their IMO fabulous location at the top of the Spanish Steps is NOT going to overcome what i think is one of the most dreary decors on the planet...but that's a personal thing I admit and I'm not even a decoration queen!!!

I've stayed at the Aldovandi Palace which used to be a school for young women. It is wonderfully decorated and it is by all means a nicely decorated and quite quite hotel but as Zerlina says it is kinda out there on the other side of the Villa Borghese (now, if we could all just only stay THERE LOL)..but you can walk through the area and to the top of the Via Veneto from there without too much hassle.

Have you considered the Lord Byron in that same general neighborhood (it's called a TAXI btw if you don't want to hoof it...besides how OFTEN do you spend a honeymoon in Rome?)

A closer-in place might be the Parco dei Principi which has a great pool among other things and is also pretty quiet.

Another possibility might be the Inn at the Spanish Steps or if you want supposed luxury the St Regis.

I won't bother with the Via Veneto stuff such as the Westin only because there are a lot of people here who have decided that being on the Via Veneto is "too touristy" and I was once told by another Fodorite that the Via Veneto isn't "part of the real Rome" (not enough dress stores perhaps). But it can be quiet for sure.

Have a great trip...

In September, we stayed at the fabulous Portrait Suites Hotel on Via Bocca di Leone, just 3 blocks from the Spanish Steps. The hotel is newer and very quiet. The hotel is owned by the Ferragamo group, so the decor is contemporary and gorgeous! The hotel also has a fantastic rooftop deck where you can have breakfast or drinks, with 360 degree views of the city. I would be happy to email you my photos if you are interested. The website is www.lungarnohotels.com

I wanted to thank everyone for these wonderful suggestions. This is very helpful. It will likely be either the Aldrovandi Palace, the de Russie, or the Portrait Suites. Thanks again.

We;'ve stayed at the Hassler , which was fine - although I do;t know if it is the most luxurious hotel in Rome. But I hope you mean it bout money not mattering - since a deluxe double is about $800 per night in June.

We prefer the minerve because we like the location - but we're used to city noises - don't even hear them. The deluxe double is aobut $650 per night.

But most of us on this forum are in the moderate category of traveler. If you really want ratings from people who travel upscale all the time have a look at the ratings on the web site of Travel & Leisure or Conde Nast Traveler.

We're about to stay at the Exedra for a night. I'll post back with my impressions once we have!
