Most beautiful country in the world...possibly

According to this poll

https://www.theguardian.com/travel/s...atiful-country

Possibly not today though as it's been tipping it down since this morning.

Rough Gider readers are largely Brits, right>

But in any case hard to beat.

I have been saying for some time that Scotland is the most spectacularly beautiful place I have visited.

Nowhere.

Absolutely, nowhere is as spectacularly beautiful as the ******* of ******* ******* Bay in Thailand. Very difficult to get to but once you've made it it's like "The Beach" before Hollywood destroyed Koh Phi Phi.

Coming in a close second are the ********* cays in The Bahamas.

Third is ************ in Mozambique.

All these places have been redacted as all are totally undiscovered and I intend to keep it that way.

Access to all is by private yacht only.

This from a Scot who doesn't buy The Guardian.

Actually, on a sunny day last May, it was 26oC, we were sat on the NW beach of Iona eating ice creams and watching dolphins swim by.

I said it was the most beautiful place on Earth.

I'll say anything to keep the peace in a marriage.

God spawned me in Scotland, I've been spending the last 48 years trying to get out.

bC apart from the fact that we share the same view on marriage I have a question.
Is Scotland technically a country ?
For a Belgian it sound like saying Wallonia is a country.
If so Wallonia us the most beautiful place on earth.
But I nearly managed to get away. Waterloo is so invaded by foreigners (British being in the lead) that it doesn't look like Wallonia anymore.
So much for living like a local ;-)

does it have its own government and autonomy from Belgian central government in many matters? Its own banknotes (though based on British Pound)?

Among the many variable are the season and the weather. It is a ridiculous standard as there so many beautiful places, that to chose one is useless.

Most beautiful is obviously subjective - yeh Scotland has rugged beauty but I find Switzerland or France more 'beautiful' as to what I see as beauty - pastoral farms -rolling hills - cute small towns and mountains too.

To some Scotland can indeed be bleak and to others that is beauty.

Yes, 2 governments actually : one for the region, one for the community. We are pragmatic we use Euros - you think we should do wallons euros ?

Scotland is amazing for sure, but for me New Zealand can't be beat. That said, I still need to see a lot more places before I can personally declare that about any place.

I'm sorry, I just don't get it. I truly do not mean to be insulting to the Scotch members of the Forum, but beauty is surely in the eye of the beholder.

When my eye views the main photos of the link all I see is bleak desolation. In some of them you cannot see one tree, shrub, bush, or even blade of grass. None of those are apparently able to survive in that harsh environment. If it were not for the (frigid) water in the photos one could be looking at the surface of the moon.

Not beautiful, except in an alpine sense, IMHO.

I'm afraid that the Azores beats Scotland and Belgium into a cocked hat.

New Zealand is especially beautiful and the light is painfully pleasant. Certainly there is more of it than the Azores.

Whathello, why don't we let FIFA decide what is a country? Scotland beat Malta 2-0 in the World Cup qualifiers last night. Belgium beat Greece 2-1. By that definition they are both countries.

Not sure it can beat Switzerland. Will have to reserve judgement until I visit next year.

Love the FIFA definition.
For Belgium at least we have one common army, one soccer team and one king.
