Morgana hotel in Rome
Does anyone have any experience with this hotel. Its rated as a 4 star, but some reviewers have said it's a very dangerous neighbourhood being so close to the train station. Should we be worrried?

I would not put much weight in the "STARS" system in Italy. That does not reflect the quality of the establishment but rather the level of services or amenities it has - like a restaurant, elevator, concierge service, parking, etc.
That said, the Morgana is very close to the Roma Termini station. I'm not I'd classify the neighborhood as "dangerous" but it's certainly not as picturesque as the other neighborhoods in Rome. It would be well connected to the sites by the two metro lines and multiple buses that come to Roma Termini. But it's a bustling, rather "charmless" area. As long as you know that - and don't expect different, it's okay. I've stayed in the area a few times and passed through this section of town almost daily as we lived over near the Vatican.
For inexpensive hotels, this is probably the "spot" with 350+ accommodations near the train station. I would not be worried, but like any big city... I'd be aware!
Here are a few other accommodations in the Termini area perhaps ranked a little higher (by previous guests) than the Morgana. Good Luck in your search!

That is not a dangerous neighbourhood.
The hotel is located near Termini, so it will be noisy. I would check to make sure the windows at the hotel are a double paned for noise reduction.
I once stayed at a hotel (one of the Bettoja Hotels) on the VG Amendola --just a few steps from your hotel-- and it was fine.
The one great thing about the location of your hotel is that you are close to Monti, a really great neighbourhood in Rome, and you have the convenience of walking over to Termini use buses or the metro.
There is also a grocery store in the basement of Termini--CONAD. I usually get supplies for my hotel room there.
Good luck,

I've stayed at the Kennedy Hotel, across the street from the Morgana and didn't think the area was dangerous. It's very convenient if you want to walk to the train station. Otherwise I would stay in an area near a square for late evening drinks and people watching.

I stayed at the Morgana in 2010. A friend had stayed there years ago and we were looking for a hotel close to Termini. We should have stayed at the Kennedy right up the street.
The staff at the desk is less than helpful. We needed to check in online at 1 pm and they told us the computer was in use until 11 pm. NOT. The free internet in the rooms costs 10$ and does not work.
The room 'air conditioner' did not work. Maintenance came after an hour to check it out and declared it working. It was cool in the hallway but not in the room.
We had an inclusive room with breakfast. When we went early to have coffee and a roll, the staff came in and told us to leave b/c we hadn't purchased breakfast although I reserved a room with breakfast included.
This is a business hotel, now that I've seen it for myself. I would not stay there again.
The area was under construction so the sidewalks were rough to walk on. But, the area is okay.

For a decade '97-'07 I followed a few messageboards daily (rec.travel.europe, Fodors, Frommers, Lonely Planet).
And apart from pickpocketing in the area and a few luggage theft stories in Termini I never once heard of any type of violence or mugging against anyone.
In 8 trips (96-05) amounting to ~3months staying basically on the same street as the Morgana (4x @ the Kennedy) I never saw anything that would cause me concern about safety outside of loud drunk in a grocery store once.
If you stay at the Morgana try this RESTAURANT IN RUINS

Turn right as you step out of the hotel and walk 4 blocks (500m) there the street ends and you will see this ancient Pavilion just like it is in Photo #6. Regards, Walter

adrienne; The cool thing in that park besides the Kennedy is a small section of the Servian Wall post-375BC.
If you draw a line from the long section of this Wall in front of Termini to this small section, the Wall likely ran in front of the Kennedy and thru the Morgana.
On the Cityside there was an earthen rampart _-] so the troops could get to the top of the Wall also I assume? a seige engine defense (hard to break down a stone Wall with a solid earth foundation behind it).
Also there was a wide deep trench in front of the Wall.
So it's likely that while taking the Kennedy's elevator maybe ~2nd or 3rd floor, in that space in a different time we were atop this rampart.

I don't post much either (long, long time lurker) but the Morgana was a big letdown for us in early June, 2010. It seems like a business hotel so I would have thought that at least one computer would be available for those needing to check in online for their flights. But, despite the internet being advertised as free, it was 10$. I chose not to pay that just to check in on my iPad and asked nicely to use their computer when we checked in to the hotel. They said the only computer they had was the one in the office and it was available at 6 pm. We went back at 6 pm and we were told it was in use and to come back at 11 pm. Rude front desk staff. And the breakfast included in the price for which I had a printout proof of, was not to be despite having physical proof that the room rate we paid came with breakfast.
I realize stuff happens when you're traveling but this staff did not even attempt to be accommodating in the least.
Could be that coming from 3 wonderful nights at Locando Orseolo in Venice made the Morgana pale in comparison but there was no reason to be so inhospitable.
