It's a feeble sprinkling here in the UK in comparison, but we just aren't very good at snow.
My skiddy car, thin raincoat and lack of gloves are fairly typical of how unprepared the general populus is.
(I did look at boots and big shearling coat thingy after the last lot of snow. But then decided to buy a new handbag instead......)

Today we have 14 to 17 inches - with whiteout (blizzard) conditions tonight. One of my colleagues called in from NJ - he had more than 2 feet last week and has more than that again today - so far.
So, today they closed the schools so they could plow the streets. School is back on tomorrow - and the subways and buses never stopped running - although the latter a little slower.

We had just got rid of last weekends offering when the newest lot arrived.
Since there is no more salt in our town, and very little in the province the roads are not cleared, not that they ever cleared many in our town anyway.
I walked the dogs in a blizzard yesterday afternoon. We were all white by the time we finished, and I was nearly blinded by the snow in my eyes. Horizontal snow. Even worse than vertical snow.
This morning I went our with them again and risked breaking my neck as it is so slippery now.
My poor husband took over 3 hours to get home last night, for a journey that normally takes just over an hour. He went off to work again this morning - it only took him two hours this morning though.
If I wanted to live somewhere that got snow I'd move to Switzerland or Canada, or Wyoming or somewhere. This is horrible - mostly because we aren't used to it I admit.
It is horrible and I hate it. Please make it go away.

Here in Philadelphia, we had 29 inches last Friday/Saturday, and another 16 yesterday. (45 inches = 114 cm) They are trying valiantly to clear the roads, and the main highways are in pretty good shape, but the problem on a lot of the secondary roads and side streets is that there is just nowhere to put all the snow.
And there will be no meltdown anytime soon, as high temperatures won't exceed the mid 30's F (2 C) for the next 7 - 10 days.
