Montserrat and Walking Issues
We planning on doing a day trip to Montserrat in December. We are two couples, 50's and 60's, both husbands have issues with extended walking.
Can we do Montserrat with minimal walking?

I guess that depends on what you consider extended and minimal, but it isn't very far from the cable car to the monastery -- less than 1/2 km, IIRC, and the museum is in between those two. There's a gentle slope up from the cable car station; it's flat once you get to the level of the monastery.

Yes like kja says there is very little need for a lot of walking IME - the path of the way of the cross or whatever they call it is also fairly flat but you need not do that - you may well have to stand a lot waiting in line to see the holy Black Madonna (If i recall correctly) housed in the church but yes put angst to rest.

You could also take the rack railway, which gets you even closer - the station is on the central square. However, there are steps and stairs and a slope up into the Basilica, and if I recall correctly, there are some steps up to the various terraces offering panoramic views. There is a "tourist train" bus that shuttles along the central boulevard. If you can manage some steps and walking, there is a path (the Degotalls Path, on the map below) around the back of the monastery at the far end of the central boulevard: once you are on it, it is level and not much frequented by the crowds.
