Montreux Wine Tour
Spending 12 days hiking in the Jungfrau area in late July/early August and want to finish up with a two day wine tour in the Montreux area. Has anyone done a tour like this and have any suggestions on places to see and stay overnight? We will not have a car, but are willing to hike or travel by train to get to places.
Thanks

I researched this alot and came across this place: http://www.villalavaux.ch/welcome.php
several hundred yards walk from the Grandvaux rail station. looks very intriguing. I had to abandon plans to travel to Eastern Switzerland, but you may wish to check this link out.

Hi breadbasekt777,
I love the Lavaux vineyards that stretch between Lausanne and Vevey on Lake Geneva and visit often. It is at its best in the late summer and fall, when the leaves on the vines turn golden -- just glorious.
You can hike or bike the vineyards -- there are 32 km of trails through them. Some of the villages are Chexbres, Cully, Rivaz, St. Saphorin, and Lutry. Chexbres is rather small and perched at the top of a hill, while Lutry lies right at the lake. Cully and St Saphorin are really just a few buildings. Lutry is my favorite Lavaux village because it has a lovely lakeside and a very interesting old town. There are many caves scattered in the villages and along the trails where you can do a winetasting, and there is also a central wine-tasting facility called the Vinorama, in Rivaz. Oh, and Rivaz has one of my favorite restaurants in the area, the Auberge du Rivaz.
Here are some sites about the Lavaux:

You could stay in Montreux and be close to Chillon castle and take the train/bus to Lutry or Vevey to see the Lavaux. Or you could stay in Vevey or Lutry, both of which are pretty much in the heart of the vineyards.
Have fun!
