Montpellier airport to train station - how long?

I am picking up two friends at the Avignon Centre train station on June 6. They are arriving from London (BA) at the Montpellier airport at 2:15 pm. Can they expect to be able to take the 3:59 train to Avignon? I see that there is a shuttle from the airport at 3:00 pm that arrives in the town center at 3:15 but would they be better off taking a taxi directly to the train station? Approximate cost? Thanks.

A taxi to the train station will take less than 30 minutes, so as long as the flight isn't late then you'll be fine. Sorry, I don't know the likely cost.

Dear Betty1, happen to have borrowed Cadogan's latest [2006] guide to Langedoc-rousillon frpm our local libary and thought I'd seen the answer to your Q in it. I was right!
The airport - montpellier-mediterranee - is apparently 8km SW from the town centre. There is an airport shuttle roughly once an hour to [from?] the gare - routiere [they say hourly from the gare to the airport, so I have guessed the same applies on the way back!]. They say also that more info can be obtained from the airport web-site at www.montpellier.aeroport.fr.
So I suppose that if they missed the 3pm bus, they could catch a taxi. If the bus only takes 15 minutes, I'd be surprised if the taxi cost more than E20, but you never know.

Thanks, AR and annhig. It does sound like they will be able to make that train which is good since it is direct to Avignon, assuming the flight from London lands on time. I did look at the Montpellier airport website but could not find anything more than I had in my original post.

Hi

Taxi or shuttle bus will take 20 - 30 minutes depending on traffic.

And the the taxi won't be that much more expensive than two shuttle tickets.

Peter
