We're planning a month in Paris for sometime in the first half of next year. While we (one pair of 40 somethings) are going through all the various Paris rental sites and checking related threads here, this VRBO apartment looks pretty good for our needs: VRBO #60877. Rent is about 3800 euros per month.
Opinions? DSL or better Internet connection a must; AC not necessary as we plan to go before June.
We will ask the owners for more pictures but what we see looks good. Suggestions of something comparable would be welcome. Not interested in ParisPerfect for this trip.

Raisinette, Lucky you! It looks lovely from the VRBO photos. Have you asked the owner for more photos? 2nd floor means 3rd by our standards, right? How do you feel about that? I think that it's a very nice area, personally, if you're going to be there that long.

I note that the daily rate is 90E for 28 nights or more. So that would make it around 2500E for the month. If you are a few nights short of 28, I would still negotiate with the owner for a good rate. As for the 16th district it's upmarket but some would argue not as handy as the Latin Quarter for eg. IMO 2500E for a month in Paris in high season is a pretty sweet arrangement!

I have emailed the owners with several questions, including the question about a lift. Yes, we want one since we'll be on the third floor...I don't mind the stairs for everyday coming and going, but don't want to haul our luggage etc. up flights of stairs. If it doesn't have a lift, we will regretfully look elsewhere.

worldinabag, yes you're right about the rent, I was thinking of another apartment that rented for about 3800.
No Latin Quarter or Marais for us this trip; we want to be somewhere more residential.

That's true, but I also have to think how the face of my husband will look when we have to haul our luggage and cases of Evian and Badoit up those flights of stairs.

Really no reason to carry up Evian and Badoit. Since you'll be staying for a month, you can buy enough to qualify for delivery. Several of the Paris supermarkets will do the lifting for for you.

Our previous experience was that they would deliver to the building, but would NOT carry the cases up several flights of stairs.

You may be right about that, since we've always toted our own to the second (read third) floor rather than using the delivery service. Let me know if you'd like me to inquire.

Telemarket.fr does deliver to the door, up to the sixth floor in buildings without elevators, but would work only if your apartment was equipped with a computer and you could cope in French to sign in and place an order. Telemarket is wholly or partly owned by Monoprix. The question is whether Monoprix will deliver store purchases under the same terms. Was Monoprix one of the groceries you tried? unsuccessfully?

I phoned the Grande Epicerie de Paris, 38 rue de Sèvres, attached to the Bon Marche. (Can't think of a better grocery store than that). They'll deliver to your door, and to your kitchen if you like.

Thank you for checking, Dave, that was very kind. I have no problems coping with French for that kind of thing. I know La Grande Epicerie, nice wine selection there as well, so we might to a couple of cases of Evian or similar, Badoit, Perrier, 1664s and our "house" white and red. Regardless of whether or not it's customary, we will tip the delivery guy who schleps that stuff up the stairs.

I have a short trip to Paris in December and will try to take time to check the apartment out personally. It still looks like a go even though it doesn't have a lift.

Hi, try parisrent.com. I rented a studio in the Marais ( #3) this past June. Check out #14. Adorable studio close to sights and metros and a very reasonable rate for a month.
Best part is a bakery on the corner for fresh hot baugettes for breakfast!!!!!

Thanks for the suggestions. We have just about settled on an apartment for 6 full weeks instead of a month.
One quick question: we are hoping to go to an opening night performance at the Opera Garnier. Is black tie necessary for men or is a good suit (Italian) acceptable? I've been told that opening nights are more formal than regular performances.
