We will be spending four nights in Monte Carlo in July, and are trying to decide between the Monte Carlo Grand Hotel (the old Loew's Grand) and L'Hermitage. Any thoughts?
MONTE CARLO - HERMITAGE OR GRAND?

Not sure if this will help. The Hermitage is over the top luxury and nose-in-the-air, jacket and tie required as I recall even to enter one of the bars. If they can guarantee you a room at the Grand that faces the sea that is pretty spectacular, on the other hand if there is a major convention going on there at the time (and there usually is), you will feel that you are in any other big "American" convention hotel. Our wonderful dinner on the roof there was virtually ruined by the many loud and obnoxious Americans at every table around us -- all there for an insurance convention. I felt I was in Wichita (no offence intended to anyone from Kansas).
