Mon Dieu! The Cops Are After Me
Not unforeseen, but I have received a couple of traffic tickets from France for 45 euros apiece. Not being the most fluent in French and after trying to figure out my three page manifestos, I was wondering do I need to fill out the form or is there a place on the ticket where I can just pay by CC online? Not being a scofflaw (at least overseas), I'd like to get this done before I am thrown in the Bastille. Merci!

Yes, you can pay online. Just find the web address on the ticket and enter the reference number and credit card information on the website, which should be www.amendes.gouv.fr
Don't ask me how I know this.

Where's the traditional scolding for having dared to speed in France in the first place?
Those are reserved for the special people who believe that they should not be required to pay, for whatever reason.

Yes, I saw three prices on the bill. I assume (which is also dangerous) if we pay fast it is the lesser amount. I'm not sure of that because the only French I learned at the Harvard Of The West (aka San Diego State) was kissing.

The Bastille was torn down centuries ago. The alternative is the guillotine. Kiss your head adieu.

That's what we thought also. I actually got two of those also (30 euros each...I might have to un-retire if this keeps up). Next time we're either taking the train or renting a slower car.

"Maitai how did you get speeding tickets from a rental car? I thought the rental company charges it to your credit card along with Their own processing fee?"
Maybe the rental car company gives the info to authorities? I'm not sure. France experts?

Yes, the rental company gives your information to the autorities. Frankly I find the 30€ fee more abusive than the fine, since it probably doesn't even require human intervention anymore. They are still charging back from the old days when somebody had to look up the contract and recopy your name and address.
Nevertheless, the additional fee does serve as a good lesson to pay more attention to how you drive their car.

After the "Great Petrol Error of 2005" I always budget an extra couple of hundred bucks for Tom driving errors on every trip we drive.
Outside of backing into that pole in Olomouc (I swear it moved), we've done pretty well (until now).

When we received these tickets from Italy and Spain, first there was a small fee which is for thr rental car processing, 30-40€. The actual tickets followed later. Our bank wired the money to the police department in Perugia last year but it was a long time after our trip. Spain was even more complicated. So, be glad you can pay online for a French ticket!

When we got our two infraction notices, they did not come with a sender's address like préfecture de... or commune de... or even Département de.... They looked almost festive, large, and the only sender in the top left was "République de France". We felt honored.
