Millenium Travel - Are you going somewhere?
I'm just curious to see who is traveling over
the New Year for the Millenium and who is not. Is it the outrageous travel costs for this time of year keeping you at home or is the
dreaded "Y2K Bug" holding you back?
I just wanted to know what other travelers are doing and their thoughts about this....
I fear not the "Y2K" bug. What I do fear is the "rip-off" bug that most everyone in the travel industry has either caught or soon will succumb to. Plus, why would I want to travel at the same time as most of the rest of the population? It's just a round number, after all.

When the calendar rolls from 2000 to 2001, we hope to be in Greenwich, England or New Zealand. Remember, 12/31/00 means the completion of 2000 years and embarking on the next millennium.

Call me chicken, but I'm staying put. Trips to San Diego, Puerto Rico, Miami, Spain, and Portugal are already booked throughout the year PRIOR to 10 Dec 99. After that I rather welcome people to my home than going anywhere....

About 20 of us go away for New Year as a house party every year; but being Scots (who invented New Year) we stay in Scotland.

Next year we will be at Ardtornish; and estate in Morvern on the West of Scotland, where we have let a 20 bed house. We were there last year, at a rental cost of £790. This year it is £2k. However the big house, Ardtornish itself, has been let with its 36 beds for £25,000!

And it's far from the most expensive in the country.

Would the person considering going to Greenwich like to consider the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh instead. It too is on the meridien (I think) and Edinburgh will have the party to end all parties in the streets. Highly recommended.
