Milan/Venice/Como/Milan Train Transportation
Hi
Appreciate help with transportation. We arrive Milan Malpena MXP. How best to go from airport to Duomo. Then from Milan Duomo to Venice Lido, which is the best train station in Venice should we book to? SL or Mestre? Then Venice to Lake Como, what trains should we take? Then lastly Lake Como to Milan Duomo again, what train should we take? Or any other mean of transportation.

From MXP to Milan, you can either take the train or the shuttle bus. Takes about an hour.
From Milan to Venice, you take the train from Milan Centrale to Venice SL and then you would need to get transport to the Lido. Most people would advise against staying on the Lido.
For Venice/Como, you have to train back to Milan Centrale and change trains. Which train you wants will depend on what part of the lake you plan to stay on.

If you plan to visit some things in Milan, you will need to store your luggage at Centrale first. Leave enough time to retrieve it as sometimes there can be a line.

Between Milan and Venice, you have a choice between Trenitalia from Centrale and Italotreno from Porta Garibaldi - both to Venice S Lucia.
The two services are broadly comparable (though, as with all competing railway or airline companies, relative prices will fluctuate more or less unpredictably), and there are hourly connections to Como from both Milan Centrale and Porta Garibaldi. Both stations are of course on the Milan Metro, and are roughly the same distance from Piazza Duomo by cab. In my day, cabs from Piazza Duomo were slightly faster to P. Gaibaldi than to Centrale, though these things change.

To get from MXP into Milan your best bet is the Malpensa Express. Follow the signs from baggage claim. You buy your tickets from a machine at the top of the escalator leading down to the platform, and the trains leave every 30 minutes during the day. It is about 45 minutes to Centrale Station. Once at Centrale it is about 10-13 Euros for a cab to the Duomo.

Thanks all. Now I'm wondering on Venice to Como bellagio, I understand I take train to milan and change Como, but where in Como to be closer to Bellagio.?>
Taking the Nord de Milano (non-Trenitalia and non-Italotren) to the terminus at Como which is just opposite the boat docks for boats to Bellagio (or by bus too) - mainline trains from Milan's two stations flanneruk mentions go to Como S Giovanni station - well over a mile from the boat docks - so Nord de Milan services from Cardona station in Milan (also closer to the Duomo I think than Milano Centrale) would be better - but they take longer than the mainline trains and are commuter trains, not as comfy as mainline trains but cheaper - a flat fare dirt cheap you buy just before the train - mainline trains have a Byzantine fare structure where booking far in advance a specific train get a cheaper fare - walk ups pay top dollar.
Now be careful about airport trains - the Malpensa Express used to run to Cardona station and not Centrale - perhaps now the airport train to Centrale is called the Malpensa Express - Cardona is actually closer to the Duomo I think than Centrale and is lovingly small with taxis meeting the train doors practically - but no luggage storage like in Centrale.
And I personally love staying on the Lido in off-season because it is very cheap - 30/40 euros not unusual for a private en suite room and just a short boat ride to St Mark's Square - the Lido in winter is eerily quiet and if you have a car you can actually drive to your hotel.
but I understand why some would dislike the Lido and prefer staying in the heart of Venice - price however can be much less in the Lido and no crowding.

There are only TWO train possibilities, basically, for Lake Come. If you plan on visiting the town/city of Como itself OR if you want to venture up the east side of the lake to mid-lake towns such as Varenna-Esino.
For the latter you take a train from Milano Centrale; those trains run about every two hours.
