www.trenitalia.com is the official site of Italian railways but can be hard for novices to use. Where in Austria are you going? If the train is going onto Germany you may also try www.bahn.de/en - the German Railways web site or of course the Austrian railways site www.oebb.com.
discounted tickets are train-specific and cannot be changed nor refunded in full - a heft cancel fee if any at all - be sure of your train date and time. But yes you can save a ton over full fare but lose any flexibility - discounted tickets are sold in limited numbers so must be booked in stone months in advance.
All those sites either let you print your own tickets or give you some kind of code to give the conductor or with which to retrieve your tickets in stations.
For lots of great info on these trains in general check www.seat61.com - the Bible now for discounted tickets and for general info www.ricksteves.com and www.budgeteuropetravel.com.
There are several daily trains Verona to Austria and oodles of trains Milan to Verona in case the direct train is sold out in discounted tickets but then you may have to work with two separate sites.

You can buy tickets from www.bahn.de/en for the Verona Porta Nuova station to Innsbruck train - full fare 36.30 euros but discounted tickets would be about half that if you booked early enough to get them. Milan-Verona www.trenitalia.com - if you want to take slower regional trains they are dirt cheap or get a discounted Milan to Verona fare (and see if they have a Milan-Innsbruck fare - could have but don't think so).
