Hi there,

I am planning 3 nights in Milan and 6 in Bellagio at the start of September but have realised that decent budget hotels are very hard to find. I am going with my mum so don't want anywhere noisy or dodgy!! Has anyone stayed at the Blaise and Francis in Milan and the Hotel Centrale in Bellagio? Are they good, are there better places for around the same price (maximum 110 euros per room per night)? Any info would be much appreciated!

There are a lot of great deals for hotels in Milan during the summer, but you have to bide your time. I always leave it until about a week before my departure time because the prices change if they have rooms free. Check out all the various reservation services on the web (Venere, expedia, edreams, resdestinia, bookings.com ets.)because for the same hotel you'll find that the price varies from one reservation service to the next. I recently stayed at the very central 4 star Hotel de La Ville just behind the dome & paid 67€ with breakfast but on some web sites they were quoting 169€ for the same night so shop around.
Also the F1 GP is on the 4th of September so the 3rd will have high prices, try & avoid this date. However having said that last year I stayed at the Michaelangelo during the GP & paid 80€.
Bellagio is different because it's high season.

As Clark says, it is high season, & you have left it very late to book for Bellagio - take whatever you can get.

Thanks Clark55, we will be there after the Grand Prix fortunately. There do seem to be plenty of hotels available and I have been on all the websites you suggested. My problem is really knowing if the hotels that sound tempting due to cost are decent or not. I'm particularly suspicious about the Blaise and Francis in milan as it's only £25 a night per person and is 4 star! Has anyone stayed there? Should I be suspicious??

I think you're probably too late to find accommodations in Bellagio within your budget. Expand your search to Varenna and Menaggio.

The only problem with the Blaise & Francis is that it's too far out. Go for something nearer the Centre.
Check out Tripadvisor for hotel reviews.
Another very good reservation service is Precision. I've used them for all over the world including Milan.

Although this is ages ago i thought i'd let you all know where we stayed. In the end we just went for the blaise and Francis in Milan and despite my fears about how cheap the place was it was great!! the breakfasts were fantastic and the rooms clean and comfortable. It is out of the centre but I really liked that as we only had a ten minute walk to the underground station and then it was a very short and cheap ride to the centre. At only £25 bed and breakfast a night it was great value. The hotel (hotel centrale) in Bellagio was also lovely. More of a b and b feel and be prepared to carry your cases up the steep steps up to the hotel but it was very nice. The rooms are small and there aren't any extras in the room (shampoo etc provided at start but never replenished) but when comparing the cost of other hotels in Bellagio it is great value and highly recommended.

Have you looked into B&Bs or apartments in Bellagio? We just booked our stay for next summer at La Limonera. It's new and looks nice.

Hi there,

I remember seeing la limonera when we were there and it looks lovely, it has big gates and a beautiful garden and is in a fantastic location. Have a lovely time!

Kate -- thanks for the feedback on La Limonera. I never noticed the date of your initial posting (duh). I'm glad things worked out so well for you. I'm going to file away the information on the Blaise & Francis in Milan. Quite a few of us will be passing through Milan next year and may need a place to stay for a night.
