Milan - must to see & do
I'm going to Milan for a few days early september with some friends. This is our first city trip and wonder what people would suggest is a must to do when we are there.

Hi
My wife and I went to Milan and Venice last year and we had a great time there. We started of by staying 3 days in Milan and we got to see the Duomo, the Last Supper of DaVinci, different museums etc. I have posted a trip report with some pictures on my personal homepage gardkarlsen.com Maybe you can find some useful information there. Get in touch if you have any questions or comments and have a GREAT trip
Regards

The first easy answer is see the Duomo and walk through the adjacent (and beautiful) Galleria which comes out at another end in the piazza in front of LaScala. Supposedly, LaScala will reopen after a radical refurbishment/rebuild in December, so you won't be able to go in.
On a clear day, you can take the elevator to the top of the Duomo and view the city from these rampart spires. The elevator is on the left side of the Duomo (access from the outside of the building, not inside), about halfway back. Within easy walking distance of the Duomo is the Sforza Castle, which has lovely (free) garden areas and a Michelangelo sculpture. In good weather, many picnic here. Get some take away food from the legendary Peck "deli" (it is so much more!)& saunter over to the castle.
All of the above are within close proximity to eachother and can be done together easily.
The city museum and DaVinci's Last Supper are other good choices. Get a timed entrance ticket for the latter.
The Navigili area has some fun eating/entertainment spots for evening & weekends.

Thanks Gard, I found your website really useful. Any tips for central station area, we're staying in Hotel Demo on Via Tonale which is close to the station and I'm slightly worried about your comments on people sleeping rough etc.
Thanks, vong

Hi
You should be fine even around the central station. We went there several times but we didn't go there at night.
