I'm getting ready to book my flight to Milan from Boston. One option has me flying into Malpensa and returning out of Linate. I have never used Linate before...any good reasons why I should avoid it.... Are there hotels nearby?

It's a lot closer to Milan if that is a factor - being practically in the city i think
Is your flight home direct from Linate? I only ask because that's not normally used for direct flights to the US, you probably have to transfer somewhere else in Europe before getting to Boston.
Malpensa is 30 miles or so out, Linate is only 4 miles out from the city center.
I have a direct flight to/from Malpensa from Boston in October.
Linate is the fog capital of Europe, if not the world. Indeed, it's just about the single foggiest spot in Lombardy. Now why would anyone put an airport there? Cosa vuoi? Siamo in Italia
Between November and about February, there's a very good chance your flight will be messed up. And, as amyb says, if you're flying to Boston, you'll have to change somewhere else en route.
Otherwise, Linate's great. For intra-Europe flights from March to Sept.
amyb: my flight would be Linate to Paris and then to Boston. Would you mind telling me which airline you were able to get a direct flight from Boston to Milan and back? Thanks.
kettamic, it was AirOne and they were considerably cheaper than the alternatives. It is a new service out of Boston.

I really don't like your post.
It's "old"...
In the last years the situation of fog & Linate is much better than in the past.
Going back to differences between the 2 airports.
Even if Linate is much closer to the town the time to reach it by public transports is not so different than Malpensa because you have to use a bus whilist Malpensa ha a train connection.
Time & money with taxis is much different (Linate 15 - 20 minute and 20 - 25 euro / Malpensa at least 45 - 50 minutes and 80 euro to city center).

I had a similar question regarding the 2 airports. I need to take a train to Santa Margherita (Genoa) from Milan and wasn't sure which airline is closest to the train station. Any help would be much appreciated!

The Malpensa Shuttle has very clean and comfortable modern busses (the luggage goes in the underbelly of the bus) and very good schedules. The Malpensa Shuttle goes back and forth between Malpensa and the Centrale (Central) Train Station in Milan. Here is their website for your review.

Ciao Gianni, I love your Milano and have many friends in Milano and the surrounding areas.
We are flying into Malpensa and out of Linate in August, flying from Detroit though Amsterdam. I didn't know you could only get to Linate by bus or taxi. No train for sure? Where would one get the bus?
We are spending our last two days in Milan and looking forward to it!
