Mexican cruise with my grand daughter

I sure would appreciate some feedback.

3 years ago I took my 9 1/2 year old grandson on a fabulous land/ sea trip to Alaska.

It is now time for my 9 year old grand daughter to have her special trip with granny.

I booked a Mexican Riviera cruise with her for next summer, after school is out for the summer.
We live in Califronia and it will be easy to drive to the port of LA to board the ship.
The AAA travel person did tell me that I would need a parental consent letter--(notarized by both of her parents) to show-(along with her passport.)

Does anyone have such a form that I can give to my son and daughter in law so they can fill it out and have notarized?

It sure is getting a lot more complicated now- but I do understand the need to use caution.

Post this on the Latin America board and you might get some answers.

For a little direction, though, this is a legal question (as you are requesting guardianship for a certain amount of time) and I would direct it to a lawyer.

You don't need to request formal guardianship to travel out of he country with a minor that is not yours. Nor do you really need a form of any kind (if one exists out there, I have never seen it, but that would be handy if it did). All you need though is to have the parents write a letter stating that you have their permission to travel with their child to that country, state the dates of travel, to/from information and then signed by both parents and notarized. It is pretty common to have to do that. My husband has to have the bio-mom of his son sign a similar type of letter when we travel with his son. It is always written something like "I, Ms. sally Smith, give my permission for Mr. John Clark to travel with our son "Andy Clark" from Denver Colorado to Mexico from the dates of 01/01/06 to 02/01/06." We dropped in contact information just in case there were any questions.

You should also include a phrase authorizing you to obtain medical care for the child should it be necessary.
