I entered Gare du Nord as your Station of departure, and La Motte Picquet as your destination station
You get Line 4 to Strasbourg-st Denis, then change to Line 8 to La motte. travel time 16 miuntes...and a nice map to go with all of this.

I know it's cheaper by metro, but I've decided there is a time and place to spend a few euros. And this is it.
My moment came in Milan several years ago, when we were doing the reverse of your question: We were going from our hotel to the train station. The metro was only 2 blocks from the hotel. Should be a snap. However, we waited on the platform for 30 minutes as trains came and went, packed like sardine cans, until one arrived that we could squeeze onto with our luggage. I suppose we could have forced our way earlier, but it just looked like it would be unpleasant. Anyway, from that experience we decided a few extra euros were worth it.

At Gare du Nord walk 3 minutes to the Metro, line 4, direction Porte d'Orleans. Change at Strasbourg-St Denis to line 8, direction Balard. Get off at Ecole Militaire, and walk 3 minutes to the Rue Cler. Total time is 23 minutes.

If you're not mad keen on changing train lines under ground, you could ride the N° 42 bus from just outside Gare du Nord to the Alma-Marceau stop (you get a nice scenic tour enroute), get off, then on a N° 80 at the same place. Ride to a stop on Avenue Bosquet convenient to your hotel. Here is a map of that neighborhood: tinyurl.com/2v3gmg
