ercedes-Benz museum - take S1 (S-bahn 1 from main train station or other points in Stuttgart to Daimlerstadion stop (in suburban Stuttgart) and follow signs (open Tue-Sun 9am-5pm; free) Sounds like you can just show up. Hoping others who have been there recently will shed more light. I was there years ago and just went in - short walk from station.

hi there.
museum and factory tours are two different things. The first is open to public as a selfeguided tour, You wont see anything from the factory. The other is a guide tour, but as I know not for public.
Have send a mail to my friend working at DC, waiting for answer.
have fun

There is a classic center in Stuttgart that houses every model of Mercedes ever built, including the first ever "car". To me, it looks like a bike with a motor.
I would email public relations at MBZ to see if you are allowed to visit. Make sure you mention the classic center which is different from the museum. We had a connection who allowed us to go behind the scenes so I am not sure if they offer access to everyone.
