Mephisto Shoes in Paris

I love Mephisto shoes, as I have found they offer the best support for me. My feet are very sensitive - and old! Even with the euro to dollar conversion rate, I'm hoping to find some when I'm in Paris in May that might be a bargain. That has been the case in previous trips to France. But I haven't yet bought any in Paris, and don't know where to look for Mephisto stores. A few weeks ago I was able to find a couple of stores on the internet , but didn't write down the addresses, and now I can't find those sites. I'm staying in the 6th, and I think I saw a store around there.

Does anyone know where I can find a Mephisto store? I'm frustrated, especially since I found them easily before!

Thanks, MmePerdu. The one on St. Peres looks closest. I also finally remembered to try Pages Jaunes, and I found plenty of stores that carry them. Whew! I only hope I can find some that aren't TOO expensive. But these shoes seem to last forever, so are worth it. Foot comfort is the main thing for me these days, especially when traveling and constantly walking.

I sympathize. My feet are too wide for Mephisto's but Keen's fit me well so I now believe I have a life-time supply. I may look unfashionable but who cares?

I just bought a pair of Mephisto shoes the other day along the Rue Cler, in the 7th. There is a little shoe shop right in the middle of the pedestrian Rue Cler that has a large selection of Mephisto shoes. I thought it was a great price. I think I paid under 110 euros for a great pair of very soft comfy flats. My husband bought his first pair of Mephisto's there too! The owner speaks English and is so lovely.

In my experience, they cost less anywhere in Europe than they do in the US. They do last a long time; I have a pair of Mephisto sandals that I bought almost 20 years ago.

The largest Mephisto store in Europe is in the 14th and not that far from where you are staying at 116, avenue du Général Leclerc:

http://www.mephisto.fr/

This store will have the largest selection of any in Paris (and there are a good number of Mephisto stores here). The summer sales start June 25th so you might miss them this year.

I was going to suggest the one in the 14th, also. I think they can be a little cheaper than in the US, where they are very expensive, but I'd sure never call them a bargain in France. The selection is very limited of what they offer on sale in the summer sales, anyway, in terms of styles and sizes.

I don't know where you're staying, but there is a store -- can't remember the name -- on rue de Sevres between rue Saint-Placide and rue Saint-Romain, on the left if you're heading south from Saint-Placide. They seem to have a lot of Mephistos and other comfortable shoes in their window.

>Mephisto Shoes in Paris <

Are they what one wears in order to dance to the "Mephisto
Waltz"?

DH bought his at the rue Cler store which is about the size of a closet!! They were wonderful. They can be "refurbished" by returning to a place here in the US.

I have visited all three of the stores mentioned above.

The one in the Rue Cler is tiny and chaotic but has friendly service with good English if you don't speak much shoe French. Nothing in my size.

The one in the rue des Santes Peres is very nice. I have bought a number of pairs there over the years. I am a man who wears size 14 US. The first time the owner saw my feet, she called over the rest of the staff to get a good laugh! Their English is about like my French: we can complete the transaction. This is the store also referred to by toupary 6, just off rue du Sevres.

Last time the folks at Santes Peres didn't have anything for me, so I went out to the shop on General Leclerc. Though it is quite large, they only had two pairs in my size. I bought one of them. The person who helped me was a young Australian girl on her second day at work. She was overjoyed to have a customer who spoke English.

There is at least one more big shop somewhere up near Batignolles, but I haven't gotten there.

I bought my oldest pair of Runoffs, just reduced to garden duty, in 1994. Even with a couple of rebuilds, the expensive initial price is very reasonable in the long run.

My wife has actually had better luck in provincial cities. She hit a great sale in Avignon and another in Verona. So keep your eyes open!

If you live in the U.S., try www.ruelala.com. They pop up there, from time to time, and at markdown prices. I shop ruelala regularly. And especially check the Sunday Night Styleathon that starts at 5PM, Pacific Time, I think it is. On the Styleathon, they're usually marked down even lower than on a regular ruelala day.

I went to the Mephisto store in the 6th, some years ago, but they had no shoes in my size. I wear a 41. Plus, I thought the prices were high. I've done better with the prices, online, here in the U.S.

I also shop at http://www.6pm.com/womens-mephisto-shoes.

Happy Travels!

Guenmai,
Have you had good luck actually getting what you ordered from Rue La La? I've been loathe to try them out cause of the horrible reviews.

What horrible reviews? Where? I've e-mailed them several times throughout the years to mention how satisfied I am.

I have been 99% satisfied with them since 2010. I have done over 55 orders with them. I just pulled up my account.

The only recent problem that I had was that I ordered two pairs of cowboy boots and on the website, one pair stated a size 10.5 and the other a size 10.0. When I got the pair that was to be 10.5, they were actually 10.0. They ended up fitting though, but I notified them about it and they e-mailed me back right away. I think that happened one other time, too. I should have e-mailed them, before ordering, to make sure that the boots were actually a 10.5. Typo mistakes can occur.

Unfortunately, the other pair, the actual 10.0 pair didn't fit, but they sent me a return label immediately and even offered to take back the other pair, the "final sale" ones if they hadn't fit.

Plus, there's no tax charged and I am exempt for a year from shipping charges as I jumped on their offer to qualify for the exemption. And if I have to do a return, then I have the choice of either sending the item back and paying their return shipping fee or having them credit the return to my account with them and not get charged a return shipping fee.

I have been doing online shopping for a good decade or more and of all the online companies that I've personally dealt with, they are my #1 choice. I'm sticking with them as long as things keep going as well as they have been.

Happy Travels!

Zappos also carries Mephisto and they are terrific to deal with:

Guenmai,
Glad to hear you had good experiences with them. The prices are very tempting. I found negative reviews on a variety of sites. Here's one http://www.yelp.com/biz/rue-la-la-boston

Patty: I just looked at some of the Yelp reviews as when I pull up Yelp, for some reason I get horizontal lines up and down the page. It's been happening for some months now.

But, I agree with the review of the below reviewer who has also done high-volume shopping with them. I do shopping for myself and buy most of the holiday gifts, birthday gifts, Mothers' Day gifts, etc with them.

I have bought Mephistos from Nordstroms at full list price. I have tried to buy them from Zappos, but they never have my sizes and are also full list. The style I prefer is $360 US at both.

I am going to Paris this fall and would expect to pay 20 % less and get the VAT back as well, bringing these shoes into the $250 range, maybe a bit less. If they are in stock.

How many pairs of shoes would I have to buy to make the trip free?

I haven´t seen any Mephistos here in Paris at more than 210€, most are below 150€. The store at 116 ave Général Leclerc stocks a lot of shoes and you should be able to find your size in any of the standard styles (they do run out of the seasonal models). I should think you could find what you are looking for at 30% less than the US price plus the added advantage of a portion of the 20% VAT return.

There are two ways to really save on Mephistos; either shop the semi annual sales which start this year on June 25th this year or visit the Mephisto Outlet store in Sarrebourg.
