Menaggio to Lugano
According to the Swiss train website, there is only one bus a day between these two towns.
Seems odd to me, but SBB had never been wrong before. Could anyone out there confirm this is the case for me?

Adwinn - No way. There's one pretty much every hour. Journey time: 1 hr.
The operator is SPT - here's the link:

Steve is right; people commute from menaggio to Lugano all the time.
You can get the bus in the main town square on the street that runs along the lake front...near the gelato stand and the news agent.

Steve James - sure does help.
have you any idea about the cost? I come up with 4.50euros per person per way. Does that sound about right?
Also, where about in Lugano can you catch it. I don't remember there being a main bus terminal in Lugano like the schedule says. At the train station there are some bus stops, but is that the bus terminal?
And I have no idea where sal. Ulivi is!

A bit off the subject...
This two-lane road is sometimes a mere one-and-a-half-lane wide. We traveled it often during our one week stay in Lugano recently. Several times we lucked out by getting right behind this horn-tooting bus as it ran interference for us (like a pulling guard for his running back) and thus we sailed on through as cars coming towards us were forced to give way.
(We had similar experiences along the Amalfi Coast highway.)

Yes, there is a bus that leaves from the Menaggio square about once an hour. You buy your tickets in the newspaper/tabac store. Also, be sure and get a separate special ticket for each piece of luggage that you put in the bus underneath. I bought my ticket one day early, because there are lots of people who just go to day trip and then return. As the previous poster indicated, the bus lets you off about ten minutes out from the Lugano main piazza. I was surprised, because the bus driver stopped the bus, and then vanished! As we were all tourists, no one was quite sure where to go. Luckily, I had one 24 inch bag with wheels. Just ask someone and they will point you in the right direction. Also, in Lugano, you cannot just hail a taxi in the street. There is an official taxi stand where you have to wait for the taxi. It is near the information office, right across from the Burger King! One person said BurgerKing, but with a German accent, and I didn't understand at first. Just wait by the big TAXI sign, and a cab will show up.
