I will be returning to Switzerland next year with two senior female cousins. I have located an apartment in Meggen and Brienz, each having two bathrooms with showers which is ideal for me. Each apartment is about the same distance from the station and ports, views are great from each, but the one in Meggen is right on the lake. Basically, either one would be suitable but I know nothing about either location as far as shopping and restaurants etc.
Any suggestions?
Meggen or Brienz apartment ?

Meggen is along lake Lucerne. It is a quite place. The transit traffic goes around the village center. You can cruise to Lucerne for shopping or use the local little shops.
Brienz as a great village along the road from Meiringen to Interlaken. There is a lot of traffic on this road. Otherwise Brienz is the capital of woodcarving and the home of the Ballenberg open air museum - www.ballenberg.ch - and the starting point of the Brienz - Rothorn steam train. There is a coop suermarket at Brienz.
Have fun

Thankyou pore. My wife and I went to Ballenberg five years ago, but didn't spend any time in Brienz.
Do you know if there is a coop in Meggen?

Thanks again for your help pore.
Knowing there is a coop in town, I've deciced on Mengen. It is also a shorter trip to the Protestant church of Tagerwilen where our grandparents were married. It will be the first time there for one of the cousins. We'll also be going to St. Gallen to try to get information about my grand mother's family, and to Basel to try to get additional information about my grandfather's family.
I have my grandfather's Home Town Certificate from Basel declaring him, his wife, and any lawful children, citizens of Basel and that they will always have the right to live in that town under any circumstances, any time. I'll have to check to see if it pertains to grandchildren as well.
