Good morning
I just realized that one of my four days in Paris coming up is on May 1.
I realize many things will be closed, but how all-encompassing is "many"? Most restaurants or few restaurants? Will the train schedule be reduced?
I suppose I could use that day to merely wander and take photos. I would expect at least the various churches to be open as well.
Thanks.
May 1 in Paris - what to expect?

I hope youll have a wonderful time. Do not forget to take pictures.
A few years ago I was in Paris on May 1, and understood many things would be closed so I planned accordingly. I did a walking tour, sat in on a church service (didn't understand what they were saying, but I enjoyed the relevance and the atmosphere of the church) and I hung out in the Luxembourg Gardens. Lots of people were selling lillies of the valley flowers and I was able to pop into a bistro and have dinner. It certainly didn't seem like the city shut down or anything.
Take a tour of a cemetary (Pere Lachaise is very cool) or just go wander. I half considered taking the train into London on that day but found I had enough to occupy my attention without leaving.
Thanks everyone
I might visit Montmartre and its cemetery. I have visited Pere Lachaise a few times.
I think I will also seek out the stairs in Montmartre that Brassai made famous.
