I have tried to purchase train tickets from Budapest to Vienna at their online website MAV start. Has anyone used this site to successfully purchase train tickets?
I pick the train I want and put my tickets into the que. But I cannot find the place to actually put in my credit card information.

It does work for some people, but it's fiddly and temperamental with card acceptance.

You can buy Budapest to Vienna tickets easily at the station, not perhaps for 19 euros, but 25 to 35 euros, no reservation necessary.

The trick is that after choosing a train, MAV website redirects you to the OTP bank webpage (which is in Hungarian) to proceed with payment and there you can already find those few lines where you need to insert your name and card details (manageable with google translate).
Obviously not the most convenient way to buy tickets, but it allows you to get 13 EUR discounted ticket for one-way travel. Same discounted ticket can be bought at the station as well, but since they are in limited number, then chances to buy it are rather low (unless doing it for week(s) in advance). But at the same time no need to pay full fare (which is 36 euro), since MAV sells special tourist ticket (called Kirándulójegy in Hungarian) for as low as 25 EUR (or 31 EUR with pass for Vienna city transport), those are sold in unlimited number, so easily can be purchased when you already in Budapest

I am having a similar problems as wlbox.
I have registered on the Mav website and am able to take the transaction right through to payment. But everytime I try to click on payment in the bottom left hand corner (which from what I can make out from the instructions, is what I should click on to pay by credit card), nothing happens. When I click on checkout at the bottom right hand side. It takes me to a new page with the error:
"Dear Passenger! payment of OTP Bank's surface due to maintenance between 1:00 to 5:00 on April 19 payment is not possible. The ticket kiosk in reception or download previously purchased tickets printed at home during this period is smooth. "
Given that today is the 16th and I have been trying for a number of days now, I'm not sure what this means.

Can someone help please?!!!

Hi all,
After playing around with the website for a few more hours, I managed to work it out! There is something wrong with the link when it is in English. When you get to the final page where you want to click on payment, click on the payment button when the page is in Hungarian. It will then finally take you to the OTP website where you can input your credit card details and get your ten digit code to use to pick up your ticket.

Btw, seeing that a lot of people have troubles with MAV and Hungarian interface, decide to create step-by-step guide on purchasing ticket via MAV website (http://europetrainsguide.com/Advice/...ngary-MAV.html), hope it helps somebody. Good luck =)

kbiscuitt, yep, MAV (as all the other European rail companies) have a time limit on how far in advance you can buy your ticket. Tickets for September should be available since early July (i.e.60 days in advance), and obviously every next day the last day of sale will also move

First of all, use Google Chrome, as it will translate anything. I just booked Budapest to Vienna with Google Chrome and it took only 5 minutes.
