We have a noon flight on Wednesday. We have a carry-on rolling bag each, plus our personal item each.
We would like to take either the Metro or bus to the Gare St. Charles and then take the Navette to the airport.
Any suggestion which would be faster and easier - metro or bus?
We are at The Grand Tonic and it seems there is a bus stop just outside the hotel. If the metro is better ,which station would we use?
I am trying to figure the fare - I see that the Navette is 8€ but I see something that says " ticket unite + RTM for 8.50€. Is that a combo ticket for bus or metro plus the Navette? Do I buy that on the bus or at Metro station?
Thank you.

It's not really that far so you should be fine either way. I'd take the metro as buses can get stuck in traffic and you never know, plus you have to figure out bus lines and schedules. There may be a bus stop there, but do you know if it goes to the train station? I don't know about easier, if you've taken any metro system you kind of know what that's all about, given it is only 2 stops, that's what I would do. There is a Vieux Port metro station right near that hotel and it goes direct (2 stops) to the gare.
yes, the 8.5 euro fare is for the navette plus the central Marseille transportation network (bus or metro). I think it is like an all-day transportation pass, not sure, but I know it would cover the trip to the station.
I might be wrong, but I don't think you can buy those combo tickets from the bus or metro, but you have to buy them at the gare or airport at the station for the navette. At least that is what the website says, so I would guess it's true. Assuming you will be in Marseille for some time before, you can always try to buy it at a metro stop and find out.
Here is the "navette" page from the airport website (which is very useful) http://www.marseille-airport.com/access-car-parks/access/shuttle-buses/marseille
Thanks to you both!
You cannot get these combo tickets anywhere except the Gare and airport, as Christina noted. We actually walked up to the Gare today to see what was involved. We checked out the metro station at Vieux Port and found the entrance that has down escalator as the one by the tourism office only has up!
When we got to Gare, we went down into metro to find the best was to get up to Gare (read that, least amount of steps). Then we checked the quad where the Navette departs and finally bought the tickets for metro/Navette for 8.5€. It will be less stressful tomorrow as we know where we are going etc.
Thanks again.
