Marriott/Visa weekend promotion

Marriott is offering a special weekend rate beginning July 1 and ending December 31. You stay Fri thru Sun, use your Visa card and get a 50% discount on Sunday night room rate. We are winding up ten days in Norway with a Paris weekend for 135 euros including breakfast at the Renaissance Marriott in La Defense. I know it's not on the left bank but we will make do on the Metro.

I think this is a good deal, but if you are a bit of a gambler, you can try for a 4* hotel in La Defense on Priceline, and you're quite likely to get the Marriott (the Sofitel Grand Arche also comes up as a 4*). Rates in the past have been as low as $70 USD + taxes and fees - it may be more now.

I didn't mean to light a fire. I was attracted to the deal because we use Visa anyway and I will not have to prepay as on priceline. Hot Alex has 7 postings confined just to the wee hours of last night so his/her outburst might be due to lack of experience.

Hot Alex seems to be a troll and seems similar to another member who posted really obscene comments on almost all current posts some time last week or so.

payant: Don't worry about your post. It was totally reasonable. Some people will find the Marriott promotion very useful.

HotAlex is an idiot who has been posting all sorts of garbage for 2 days. If you want to see what we mean you can click on his name and read some of them. From the wordings etc it is fairly obvious HotAlex is the reincarnation of a poster that has used a few different screen names and Fodors editors keeps nuking.

Sop don't worry about it - just ignore him . . . . . .

Dear Payant,

I was also pleased to see this and want to thank you for notifying us. I am a Marriott member and we use VISA too so this could be great to know for some upcoming trips. Just also want you to know that we stayed at the La Defense Renaissance for the "French" Millennium (so cold in Dec/Jan) and we managed just fine. [Although it poured on over a million people in the Champs Elysee at midnight!] Anyway, it was a nice hotel (back then anyway)and their Metro system works very well. We are not major party animals anymore so were not going back out of the city really late at night or anything but we managed through the fact that it was out of the way. We like walking and being active anyway. At that time there was a Mall of sorts next door too so you could have an alternative to the restaurants if you want to keep water in the room or whatever.

payant,

Thank you for sharing the information. We have stayed at Marriott properties throughout Europe (often for free using Marriott Rewards points), and your post will assist more people than you might realize.
