Malta to Gozo
Will be in Malta for 2 weeks at the end of March and wondered if anyone could tell me the cost of a ferry from Malta to Gozo, approx. cost of overnight accommodation (nothing fancy), and whether or not transportation around the island is easy. I would prefer to do it alone rather than with an overnight tour where you're stuck with the tour's timeline. Thanks

Gozo is very small, not that Malta isn't. Anyway, it is very easy to go around Gozo, as all roads go through the capital city of Victoria (in Maltese Rabat). The bus terminus is also in Rabat. Road signs are better than in Malta and road conditions are better too. Hope you enjoy your stay. Any more help, do not hesitate, even on the email address.

Just wish to point out that car ferry operates regularly (every 2 hrs approx) from Cirkewwa not from Sa Maison. There is a catamaran service from Sa Maison for people, but the fare is about LM 5. It operates 2 daily and not on Sundays. All locals use the Cirkewwwa ferry. The fare is Lm 1.75 return (not Lm 1). You will get a good rate at one of the better hotels, like Cornocopia (in a village) or the St Patricks (at the waters edge). The best hotels are the Ta Cenc and the Kempinski San Lawrenz.

Thanks, Simon for jumping in here. I was waiting for you! What is your opinion re an overnight stay. I understand Gozo shuts down basically after 5:00 pm. Any recommendations on restaurants that you like in the Lm4 to Lm8 range for dinner? Always enjoy reading your comments.

Thanks Nancy. I'm not here so often as I am working on another website when I get some time on the net. Lm4 - Lm8 is I presume per person without wine. You will find some good restaurants in that region in Xlendi. So now I strongly recommend the St Patricks Hotel. Try Stone Crab. Lovely Pasta dishes. You will be spoilt for choice at Xlendi. For lunch, I recommend the Jubilee Bar in Victoria. There is also a good place for American food opposite McDonalds in Victoria, the name of which I cannot recall (evenings). Some friends recommended one of the two restaurants on top of the hill at Xlendi quite strongly (and they were connosseurs)...I'm not sure whether they ate at il-Gifen or the other one next door.<BR>Gozo used to shutdown at 5pm ... you can't say that anymore now especially not in summer. March is shoulder period. Can be quite stormy at times. I recommend sleeping at least one night in Gozo, yes. It is quite a pleasant experience. Maybe even 2 nights since you are spending 2 weeks ! Francly, i would spend all the two weeks in Gozo, but then, I am Maltese !
